8th Grade Glimpse

April 20-April 24

Counselor’s Corner: There is a MAP kickoff fieldtrip on April 24. Students will be going to the Community Center in Warrensburg. Students MUST have parent permission to attend, please get the permission slips turned in to the counseling office as soon as possible! Students will leave after first block and return at 1:30pm.

SCIENCE: We will continue working on the waves unit, including sound and light. Students will be able to distinguish between mechanical and electromagnetic waves and describe examples of each. If you have questions or concerns please contact me. Mrs. Rhoad

Exploring Agriculture-Mr. Brock: This week we will continue Unit 4: Agricultural Mechanics. Students will develop basic shop skills ranging from reading a measuring tape to safely operating various tools. The project associated with this unit is a blue bird house. The lab fee for this activity is $5. If you have not done so, please send this to me as soon as possible.Students who fail to pay their shop fee by Monday, April 20 will be required to complete an alternate assignment while others are working on projects. If you are unable to pay the fee by the deadline, please contact me. We will begin project construction this week.Please make sure your child wears closed toe shoes. 8th Grade RISE- Students will continue their independent study projects. They are set to present either May 11th or May 13th. The Extempore strategy we will continue learning next week is “The Art of Reasoning.” We can use our reasoning in two different ways-inductively or deductively. We will focus on deductive reasoning which is going from general facts to very specific conclusions. Mrs. Bell , Conference Time: BLUE 5 (1:30-2:45)

8th Grade Computer Literacy B4-We will continue our keyboarding focus on the whole keyboard and practice to increase our net speed. Students will begin a research project on a country of their choice. This project will require them to take the information that they have collected and present it in a PowerPoint.

6th/7th/8th Health and Physical Education:

The students will be turning in their notebooks. They should have Chapter 21, lessons 1-6 and their fitness sheet. If they have lost the lessons they can print the packets from my website and fill them in. They have the opportunity of extra credit if they get their fitness sheet signed and their test they will get back on Monday and Tuesday next week. In physical education class they will be continuing units on softball/baseball (Dudley) and soccer (Sears). Anyone who needs to make up the mile will need to schedule a time to do so after school with Coach Sears.

BAND: This week we will be focusing on our concert music. We will revisit proper breath support, playing with good tone, as well as ensemble precision. Our spring MS Band concert is May 12th at 7:00 pm in the East Gym. Students need to arrive in the band room at 6:15 pm dressed in black pants, black socks, black shoes, and their long-sleeved blue band shirt. Mrs. Langemach

8TH Grade CA/Reading – Mrs. Lettau - We will finish the story and essay from last week. We will then have some activities/games for MAP review. FACS Students are creating floor plans. They are due at the end of class on Thursday.

Food Science We are working with food analogs and using substitute ingredients to simulate different types of food.

Graphics I:The students in this class will begin a Power Point on test taking strategies.

8th gr. Art: The students in this class will finish their oil pastel flowers and write their artist statements for this project.

Graphics II: The students in this class will continue to present and peer edit their multimedia videos. When these are completed, they will continue designing and editing their HUSKER CAFÉ’ menus.

8th gr Art:The students in this class will complete their oil pastel project of florals. Once these are finished they will write artist statements for them.

Pre-Algebra: We will complete the unit on graphing linear equations next week. Students will identify and write equations of direct variation and solve systems of equations by graphing.

Algebra I: Students will take the Algebra 1 EOC on Tuesday, April 21. We will continue the unit on factoring polynomials next week. Students will factor ax^2 + bx + c polynomials and perfect square trinomials.

U.S. History: Mr. Stickel…Students have been focused on the development of the office of the presidency as well as the challenges Washington faced while in office and the advice he had for our nation as he left office.
