Sourcing a director and a cast

Monday Club is dedicated to continuously expanding its network of creatives, and will endeavour to source those we believe will serve your text the best. If you have a team or part of a team in mind, we will discuss the options with you, however the final choice of casting will be handed over to the director, as they will have the pressure and the responsibility of bringing it to life in the space of a day. Please consider whether you are prepared to let go of casting before applying.

On the day

We ask that all applicants are present throughout the dayin order to get the full benefit from the experience. Though this is not compulsory, Monday Club aims to bring directors and actors together with playwrights in order to form long-lasting bonds, and your presence will assist in this.

The team will usually meet at 10am at the Old Red Lion Theatre, 418 St John Street, London, EC1V 4NJ. The show will start at 7.30pm. The exact timings for the day will be decided by the director.

Please be aware that the space is likely to be complete with set from the main show on at the time, so we will be restricted in what we can offer with regards to set and lighting options. Exact details will be sent out closer to the time.

We will provide a technician who will arrive just before the dress rehearsal. You will need to provide a marked copy of the script, complete with sound a lighting cues, along with any sound recordings in .wav format so that these can be uploaded by the technician in the morning. The responsibility for providing sound cues may be shared with the director.

A Monday Club representative will be on hand throughout the day to help ensure that the day runs smoothly.

We have a small budget for tea, coffee and snacks, though unfortunately, we are unable to provide travel expenses or financial assistance towards props etc.

At the end of the evening, audience members will be asked to provide the playwright with feedback on their work. This may be verbal and/or written. Written feedback will be collated and sent through to you shortly after the event. We also encourage you to stay behind for a drink in the bar after the show in order to chat to audience members and get some verbal feedback, and to celebrate the achievements of the day.
