PART 1 GENERAL
1.1 SCOPE OF WORK
1. Work of this section shall be performed in accordance with the requirements of the Contract Documents including but no limited to Instructions to Bidders, Agreement and General Conditions, and General Requirements.
2. Replace existing stage curtains and miscellaneous accessories.
3. General extent of each type of stage curtain/rigging shall include the following:
.1 Front Setting: Including fixed valance, and traversing main curtain.
.2 Intermediate Setting: Including two (2) borders, two (2) sets traversing side curtains.
.3 Back Setting: Including traversing back curtain.
4. Replace existing lite gauge chain and small gauge wire supports with new industry standard chain.

1.3 ALTERNATES
1. Some work may be within Alternates; See Section -01 23 00.
1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE
1. Fabricator/Installer Qualifications: Firm with not less than five years of successful experience in fabrication and installation of stage curtains similar to those required for this project.
2. Flame Resistance Requirements: Provide stage curtains which are certified to be inherently flame resistant in accordance with requirements of NFPA 701. Permanently attach label to each curtain indicating curtain is permanently and inherently flame resistant.
3. U.S. Institution for Theater Tech. "Recommended Guidelines of Stage Rigging and Stage Machinery Specifications and Practices", Latest Edition.
1.5 SUBMITTALS
1. Submit manufacturer's specifications, installation instructions, and general recommendations, including data which substantiate that materials comply with requirements.
2. Submit shop drawings, including plans, and elevations, and relation of new work to existing rigging, etc.
3. Submit fabric manufacturer's standard color card, together with 12" square physical sample for each fabric required.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.1 CURTAIN SYSTEM MATERIALS
1. City School District Service Contractors for this type of work is Upstate Rigging and Drapery, New York.
2. General: Colors shall be as selected by the Project Architect from the color card submitted by the Stage Equipment Contractor. Each drape shall have a tag permanently attached to the rear of the curtain identifying the manufacturer, material, size, date of manufacture, use of the drape, and flameproofing data, etc. All drapery of the same color shall be constructed of fabric from the same dye lot. No shading or toning differences will be allowed in adjacent panels or drapes.
3. Front Setting:
.1 Face Fabric: IFR Synthetic Fabric, 26 ounce per yard at 54” wide inherently flame retardant synthetic polyester velour, “Prestige” by KM Fabrics of South Carolina, 1224 pile tufts per square inch.
.2 Lining: IFR Synthetic Line Fabrick: 8 ounce inherently flame retardant synthetic fabric, sewn to same fullness as face fabric: ‘Janus’ from Dazian Fabrics of New York or approved equal.
4. Intermediate and Back Setting:
.1 Face Fabric: IFR Synthetic Fabric, 12 ounce inherently flame retardant synthetic ‘Chevron 2000’ by Kreiger & Co., of New York, or approved equal
.2 Lining: same as Front Setting.
5. Miscellaneous
.1 Provide inserts, cabling, bolts, backing, reinforcements, fasteners, etc. manufacturer's standard units as required. All accessory fabrics to also be inherently flame retardant material in similar manner as face fabric.
.2 Replace existing light gauge chain and small gauge wire supporting all dead hung sets. Replace with industry standard ¼”, Grade 30 chain, applicable properly sized beam clamps which are vibration resistant; forged ¼” anchor shackles, and other applicable fasteners.
2.2 STAGE CURTAIN FABRICATION
1. Curtains - Provide not less than 60% additional fullness for curtains, unless otherwise indicated. Horizontal seams and fabric less than half=width are not permitted.
.1 Provide vertical hems not less than 3" wide, double-stitched and machine-sewn with no salvage material visible from front of curtain.
.2 At all vertical edges provide turnback of face fabric as follows: (Form by folding face fabric back at each end of panels and securing by sewing across top hem and grommeting to both layers of fabric. Do not sew turnbacks vertically.)
• At all traversing curtain leading edges provide 24" turnbacks.
• At other edges of traversing curtains - 12" turn back.
• At 'All' other edges - 6" turn back.
.3 Reinforce top hems by double-stitching 3-1/2" wide heavy jute webbing to top edge with minimum 1" of face fabric turned under.
.4 Provide fullness in curtains with sewn in box pleats at 12"o.c.. Provide not less than #2 brass grommets along top hem reinforcing, spaced every 12". Provide #3 brass grommets for velour curtains. Arrange vertical seams of valances and borders so that they fall within pleats.
.5 Provide bottom hems not less than 6" deep, with separate interior heavy canvas chain pockets equipped with cadmium-plated continuous jack chain. Stitch chain pocket so chain rides 2" above bottom edge of curtain. Tack chain at each end to prevent bunching.
.6 Provide lining in same fullness as face fabric, and finished 2" shorter than face fabric. Attach lining to face fabric along bottom line at seams with 4" long strips of heavy woven cotton tape.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION - CURTAINS
1. General: Install materials, systems in accordance with manufacturer's printed instructions and recommendations, and to comply with governing regulations.
2. Remove existing curtains and examine rigging to assure all required parts, connections, bolts, etc. are present and in good condition and working order. Replace/tighten any missing or loose remaining parts, bolts, etc.
.1 At all Curtain Systems, Replace with new the following:
• Support lines from the structure to the pipe battens, (and pipe batten to tracks when applicable).
.2 At traversing curtains replace with new the following:
• Floor Pulleys
• Traversing Ropes
3. Clean, adjust, lubricate all operable parts (new and old) prior to hanging new curtains.
4. Curtains - Secure curtains to rigging by one (or both if required) of the follow methods:
.1 Secure curtains to track carriers with track manufacturer's special heavy-duty "S" hooks or snap hooks.
.2 Secure fixed curtains to pipe battens with minimum 5/8" wide x 36" long braided soft cotton tie lines.
.3 Test and adjust operation of all traversing systems.
.4 Adjust all curtains to hang properly and uniformly. All operating curtains to function properly, safely, quietly, easily, and smoothly.
3.2 INSTRUCTION
1. Instruct Owner on proper use of rigging and operating mechanisms and provide written instruction on same.
