Look in
  1. Always check the Look In box and to make sure that you’re searching your own school first and then additional schools at the preferred level throughout the district.
  2. Then type the word or phrase you want to look up in the Find box.
  3. If you look up a phrase, you must put it in quotes as in “ice hockey”.
  4. If you’re not sure how to spell your word or you want all possible forms of the word use an asterisk (*) to truncate it. For instance, if you type croc* in the Find box you will get “crocodiles”. If you type teach*, you will get results for “teach”, “teacher”, “teaches”, and “teaching”. If you’re unsure of one letter, use a question mark as in “all?gators.”
  5. Choose a search icon and click: Keyword, Title, Author, Subject or Series.
  6. Here are some hints for selecting the appropriate option:
  7. When you chooseKeyword, Destiny searches through almost the entire record so you may get too many results. We’ll discuss this option later along with when to use Boolean operators (AND, OR and NOT) for more complex searches.
  8. If you want to find a specific book, type in the exact title, and chose Title. Destiny will find it. If you type in a keyword from the title, Destiny will list all books with that word in their titles.
  9. If you want to find books by a specific person, type in all or part of the author’s name (last name first) and then click Author. You can find illustrators here too!
  10. If you want to find items about a certain subject, topic, person, or place, enter all or part of it and click Subject to get items with that word anywhere in the subject.
  11. If you want to find titles in a series like Dear Americatype it in and select Series.
  1. Special suggestion: If you use the [Refine your search]link at the top of the Search Results screen, you will not have to retype your entire entry in the Find box every time.
