Monk Fryston Community Association

To Whom It May Concern:

As Headteacher of Monk Fryston Primary School I have been privileged to work closely with Monk Fryston Community association over the last 15 years. During that time the facilities the Association have been able to provide for community use have developed and grown.

The Association has worked tirelessly to improve facilities and activities for local people, young and old. In recent years a Before and After School Club has been provided at the Community Centre and this has been, and still is, of enormous benefit to our parents and to the school. The Association has improved the play area and extended the building to accommodate the children appropriately and safely. The play area is also popular for families after school and at weekends.

The school and Community Association join forces to run a Village Fair every summer. This is a great event in which all the community groups are galvanised into action to make a special day out for everyone in the village and raise funds for the groups at the same time.

Many events take place at the Community Centre which include fun activities as well as some of a more educational nature. Meetings are held there as well as children’s parties! It is a versatile and well used building due to the excellent management and forward thinking of the Community Association Committee members.

We work closely with the Community Association to try to provide together the best possible place for young people to grow up in. A great deal has been achieved over the years but there is always more to do. The next important development would be to start a Scout Troop and Youth Club because we know that there is a real need to provide activities for young teenagers in this area.

I fully support the desire to provide Youth Club facilities where our young people can meet safely and sensibly within walking distance of their homes. I know it would be popular with parents who will know where their youngsters are and what they are doing.

The Community Centre is at the heart of Monk Fryston and the needs and interests of all the residents of Monk Fryston and Hillam are at the heart of everything they do. They are a dedicated and altruistic group and I am privileged to work with them.
