The ASU Department of Theatre offers a BIS Concentration consisting of 22 semester hours of course work. Required courses provide the student an overview of historic and contemporary theatre practices including film, regarded as a form of mediated theatre. Elective courses provide opportunities to concentrate further on a particular area of theatre practice of relevance or interest to the student.

Requirements: 1. No individualized Instruction courses (e.g., THE/THP 499) are permitted as Electives. 2. The three Elective courses should concentrate on one particular area of theatre (e.g., Film, Acting, History/Literature).
Eligibility: 1. All pre-requisites, if any, for Elective courses must be met.
Pre-registration: 1. Courses ordinarily limited to majors only are available to BIS students on a second-priority basis; that is, BIS students may not pre-register for these courses, but are allowed to register after all majors’ needs have been met.

Requirements and Eligibility Notes:

  1. A grade of “C” or higher is required for all course work in Theatre.
  2. All BIS students declaring Theatre as a concentration must maintain an overall minimum GPA of 2.50.
  3. Selected upper division courses in Theatre may require lower-division pre-requisites.
  4. SLNs for selected Theatre courses can be obtained from Theatre’s Academic Advisor in GHALL 243.
  5. All required Theatre courses on the check sheet are offered each fall and spring semester. Selected courses are available during summer and winter sessions.
  6. Up to 9 credit hours in Drama/Theatre course work can be transferred.

7. Any changes to the requirements listed on this check sheet must be

approved through a Department of Theatre Standards Committee

8.  Selected Theatre courses (e.g., THE 100, THE 320) may be offered online.

9. DARS coding will match what is on the check sheet.
