Rainforest Romance

Out of the darkness the tree frog who was being followed by Rikomi (my best friend) and searching for berries plotted down the musty amazon river. They saw some eyes, too many, they were in the river. It was a crocodile. “Swim swim got to get to a tree.” They ran and ran and never stopped. Eventually they arrived at the yano. “Phew that was hard” whimpered, Rikomi.

“Go with yummy” screamed my mum; Yummy is my pet tree frog (Rikomi and I loved him) he was like family,we couldn’t part. Wherever I went he went anyway after that I went up to my room and was bombarded with the news that my sister was ill with malaria. To cure her I would need to travel far and wide to find the ancient vine bark which had been kept hidden in the heart of the rainforest. It had been hidden for more than a thousand years it could be anywhere, this was hard. Shall I let my sister die or shall I do something? Well, I can’t let my sister die I thought. An hour later I was there in the heart of the rainforest. Hurriedly I chopped off as much vine bark as possible with my knife in case it was too late. By the time I got home my mum told me that the burial was tomorrow, as I got down from the tree house my father told me it was a curse from the nabe.

I was angry now, I ran into the forest; in my left hand I clutched hold of my knife and in my right hand I grasped my bow and arrow. I grabbed as much food as I could and tied it with a leaf and vine to hold it all together. After that I grabbed yummy and put him in a leaf bowl and filled it with water. As I ran I felt my pain subsiding and my anger was increasing by the minute, tears were trickling down my face at the thought of my sister dead. I was petrified in case there was any nabe around because they had guns, bombs, many weapons, compared to us, we had nothing.

Suddenly I saw a nabe, I was about to fire with my bow and arrow but he felt different. He felt like a friend. When he took off his helmet instantly I felt love, the birds tweeted. I jumped down from the tree and started singing. Almost automatically I could not stop myself it was like a soap opera. We kissed. Suddenly I heard a twig crack, it was my father, he fired his arrow. I pushed myself to save this nabe man. Emotionally I burst into tears. After that I screamed and shouted at my father but he wouldn’t listen.

The next morning I awoke to the smell of smoke. To start with I thought it was just someone cooking but the smell was growing stronger by the minute. It was hard to restrain myself from running to see what it was. Whilst climbing downstairs I uttered to myself continuously “what is it?, what is it?” Finally I got downstairs to feel the heat of the blazing fire of the rainforest. It was like all the secrets had evaporated. I felt lonely now. I grabbed Yummy and ran to the village and screamed “there’s a fire!” To start with nobody believed me but when they saw flickering flames they scattered in terror. Suddenly a clap of lightning flashed in the sky and then it was like a stampede of rain and a tornado grabbed me and heaved me into the sky. I was whirled around again and again. By the time I was dropped to the ground in a heap the fire had gone. We rejoiced in celebration. Thankfully I was back in time for the burial.

Unfortunately that was not the end of the nabe. Just then my sister’s spirit came to me and said “you are not alone I shall always be with you, but remember the nabe will grow (they will return)!” At that moment the torrential weather eased to a halt and the clouds faded and the sun awoke.
