Meeting was called to order at 4:10pm by Chairman, Watty Brooks Hall
Members present: Watty Brooks Hall, Shannon Byers, Tamara Swain, Laura Todd, Polly Shipley, Nancy Bassett, Shannon Izquierdo, Tina Parmar, Chip Peterson (Director of Parks) and Sheila Moody-Staff.
Members absent: Nita Rentrop, Gail Sredonja, John Oros, Bob Chandler, Tom Allen (Alderman)
Agendas and Minutes were handed out for the meeting.
The Minutes from the November meeting were approved as written.
Shannon Byers reported that the Main Street Collierville Real Estate Luncheon was a success and was well attended.
Nancy reported that the Battle of Collierville was a success with 1000 students attending the reenactment. Nancy announced that the Contempory Club’s Christmas Home Tour would be December 14th. Nancy announced the Bible Museum is working on having audio tours.
Polly announced that the Haunted Trail was a huge success and well attended.
Shannon Izquierdo reported that she attended a Leadership Collierville session and proposed to the class that they may want to consider working on a blog for the Tourism Commission.
Tina announced that the hotel industry is keeping busy and there are no tours at this time that have been announced.
Laura reported that Main Street Collierville had a successful Scare on the Square. Also the Holiday Open House, Girls Night Out are upcoming events on the square. Laura will be attending a meeting in Bristol TN.
Tamara reported that the St. Jude Give Thanks Walk at Carriage Crossing will be coming up with First Tennessee Bank as a sponsor. They are expecting 2500 participants.
Sheila reported that the town is mentioned in the Memphis brochure and is working on a spot on the website. Sheila will be attending the motor coach conference in Nashville in January. The Veterans Day ceremony was well attended, holiday decorations are going on, there was successful run of Shrek and the Best Christmas Pageant Ever and Nutcracker performances will be upcoming. The town will be bidding on softball tournaments. Sheila gave out the Christmas dates for the events. Sheila stated that there is progress on the Tom Brooks and Hinton Parks that is ongoing.
Old Business:
Watty reported that the “Live, Life, Local 38017” car sticker is getting close to being done and we will need to determine how we as a committee would like to distribute them.
New Business:
The Tourism Advisory Commission appointmentsand meetings to be re written with resolution reflecting a 2 year term with 6 meetings a year. This will go into affect beginning January 2014. Watty announced that business on the square is good and Battle Ground Lacrosse has opened up.
At 4:45 pm the meeting was adjourned with the next Tourism Advisory Commission being held January 28, 2014.
