Kindergarten

Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. (Physical Skills)

The student will:

1.Demonstrate progress toward the functional form of locomotor and nonlocomotor skills

2.Demonstrate progress toward the functional form of manipulative skills

3.Demonstrate progress towards in rhythmical patterns and movements (e.g., creative)

4.Travel in relationship to objects (e.g., over-under-behind-through)

Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities. (Knowledge)

The student will:

  1. Identify fundamental movement patterns (skip, strike)
  2. Establish a beginning movement vocabulary (e.g., start, stop, personal space, high/low levels, fast/slow speeds, Light/heavy weights, balance, twist)
  3. Apply appropriate movement concept to performance (e.g., change direction while running)

Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity. (Physical Activity)

The student will:

  1. Engage in daily physical activity.
  2. Participate in activities that require physical exertion

Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of fitness.

The student will:

  1. Sustain moderate to vigorous physical activity for short periods of time
  2. Identify how the body feels during different kinds of physical activity

Standard 5: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings. (Behavioral Skills)

The student will:

  1. Apply, with teacher reinforcement, classroom rules and procedures and safe practices
  2. Apply with teacher reinforcement, respect for individuals, property, and equipment

Standard 6: Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction. (Intrinsic Value)

The student will:

  1. Try new movement and activity skills

Grade 1

  2. Travel and change directions quickly in response to a signal
  3. Demonstrate functional form of manipulative skills
  4. Travel in relationship to objects (e.g., over, under, behind, and through)
  5. Perform simple rhythmical patterns (e.g., scattered, circle, partner)

Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities. (Knowledge)

The student will:

  1. Increase the movement vocabulary (e.g., pathways–curved, zig-zag; levels-high, medium, low)
  2. Identify the basic functions of bones and muscles
  3. Apply appropriate movement concept to performance (e.g., change direction while running)

Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity. (Physical Activity)

The student will:

  1. Participate in regularly scheduled physical activities in a variety of settings
  2. Practice the components of health-related fitness
  3. Engage in daily physical activity

Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of fitness.

The student will:

  1. Identify how the body feels during different kinds of physical activity

Grade 2

The student will:

  1. Demonstrate motor patterns in simple combinations
  2. Apply movement concepts to a variety of basic skills
  3. Follow cues to improve performance
  4. Use feedback to improve performance

Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity. (Physical Activity)

The student will:

  1. Participate in regularly scheduled physical activities in a variety of settings.
  2. Engage in daily physical activity
  3. Participate in at least one activity related to the components of health-related fitness

Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of fitness.

The student will:

  1. Engage in sustained physical activity that causes an increased heart rate
  2. Recognize the physiological indicators that accompany moderate to vigorous physical activity (e.g., sweating, increased heart rate, heavy breathing)
  3. Students participate in physical activities that incorporate components of health-related fitness

Grade 3

The student will:

  1. Demonstrate mature form in all locomotor and nonlocomotor skills
  2. Demonstrate an understanding the elements of dance
  3. Demonstrate dynamic and static balance in a variety of activities
  4. Develop manipulative skills in game situations

Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities. (Knowledge)

The student will:

  1. Learn to focus on important cues and adjust movement to specific situations
  2. Use feedback to improve performance
  3. Introduce major muscle groups
  4. Introduce the fitness components of health related fitness (e.g., aerobic capacity, muscle strength, muscle endurance, body composition, flexibility)

Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity. (Physical Activity)

The student will:

  1. Identify opportunities to be physically active outside of the school setting
  2. Engage in moderate to vigorous daily activity

Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of fitness.

The student will:

  1. Participate in moderate to vigorous daily physical activity
  2. Identify the physiological indicators that accompany moderate to vigorous activity

Standard 5: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings. (Behavioral Skills)

The student will:

  1. Apply rules, procedures, etiquette, and safe practices with little or no reinforcement
  2. Work cooperatively with a partner or small group
  3. Apply conflict resolution skills with little or no reinforcement

Standard 6: Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction. (Intrinsic Value)

The student will:

  1. Experience enjoyment while participating in physical activity
  2. Accepts the feelings resulting from challenges, successes, and failures in physical activity
  3. Demonstrates the ability to play with others regardless of differences (e.g., gender, ethnicity, disability)
  4. Interacts appropriately with peers while participating in group activities

Grade 4

Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. (Physical Skills)

The student will:

  1. Demonstrate a mature form in selective manipulative skills
  2. Combine movement and manipulative skills in applied settings
  3. Demonstrate a dance sequence and refine it into a repeatable pattern

Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities. (Knowledge)

The student will:

  1. Apply critical elements to improve personal performance in fundamental motor skills
  2. Use critical elements of fundamental motor skills to provide feedback to others
  3. Identify the fitness components (Aerobic Capacity, Muscular Strength/Muscular Endurance, Flexibility, and Body Composition)
  4. Understand that appropriate practice improves performance
  5. Recognize strategies that improve movement performance (e.g., angle of throw, spin)

Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity. (Physical Activity)

The student will:

  1. Participate regularly in physical activities for the purpose of improving skills and health
  2. Identify the benefits derived from physical activity
  3. Participate in several moderate to vigorous activities that provide enjoyment

Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of fitness.

The student will:

  1. Identify and participate in several activities related to each component of physical fitness
  2. Associate results of fitness testing to personal health status and ability to perform various activities
  3. Meet or show progress toward the health-related fitness standards as defined the Fitnessgram
  4. Identify strengths and needs as defined by the Fitnessgram

Standard 5: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings. (Behavioral Skills)

The student will:

  1. Follow activity specific rules, procedures and etiquette
  2. Work cooperatively and productively with a partner or small group resulting in good sportsmanship
  3. Work independently and on-task for short periods of time

Standard 6: Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction. (Intrinsic Value)

The student will:

  1. Experience enjoyment while participating in physical activity
  2. Practicing activities to increase skill competence
  3. Interact appropriately with peers while participating in group activities
  4. Demonstrates the acceptance of other skills and abilities

Grade 5

The student will:

  1. Manipulate objects with accuracy and speed
  2. Develop specialized movement skills
  3. Demonstrate beginning strategies for games and activities
  4. Perform sequences of rhythmic movement with a beginning, middle, and end

Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities. (Knowledge)

The student will:

  1. Use fundamental strategies in modified sports-related games
  2. Identify and apply the functions of major muscle groups to performance
  3. Define the fitness components (Aerobic Capacity, Muscular Strength/Muscular

Endurance, Flexibility, and Body Composition)

  1. Be introduced to the Frequency Intensity Time Type principle (F.I.T.T.)
  2. Identify basic offensive and defensive strategies

Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity. (Physical Activity)

The student will:

  1. Participate regularly in physical activities for the purpose of improving skill and health
  2. Identify the benefits derived from physical activity
  3. Participate in moderate to vigorous daily physical activity

Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of fitness.

The student will:

  1. Assess personal fitness based on the Fitnessgram
  2. Set goals to improve or maintain personal fitness
  3. Identify and choose activities and work to improve personal fitness level
  4. Participate in moderate to vigorous activity in a variety of settings
  5. Meet or show progress towards the health-related fitness standards as defined by the Fitnessgram

Standard 5: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings. (Behavioral Skills)

The student will:

  1. Remains on-task in a group activity without close teacher monitoring
  2. Uses time wisely when given the opportunity to practice and improve performance
  3. Identify responsible decisions about using time, applying rules, and following through with the decisions resulting in good sportsmanship

Standard 6: Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction. (Intrinsic Value)

The student will:

  1. Identify opportunities to be physically active at home, school, and in the community
  2. Demonstrates the acceptance of others skills and abilities
  3. Recognizes physical activity as a positive opportunity for social and group interaction and communication

Standard 7: Demonstrate an understanding and respect for differences among people in a physical activity setting.

The student:

  1. Recognize and incorporate strategies for including persons of all backgrounds and abilities in physical activities.
  2. Recognize how participation in physical activity influences appreciation for people of both genders, varying cultures and ethnic groups and those with various levels of physical ability or disability.

Grade 6

  2. Identify personal or peer age appropriate information feedback for performance improvement
  3. Identify basic offensive and defensive strategies
  4. Review the basic concepts of the F.I.T.T principle

The student will:

  1. Identify opportunities in the school and community for participation in physical activity
  2. Participate daily in some form of health-enhancing physical activity
  3. Investigate personal interests and capabilities in regard to one’s exercise behavior

The student will:

  1. Participate in moderate to vigorous physical activity in a variety of settings
  2. Set goals to improve or maintain personal fitness

  2. Adapt and combine skills to meet the demands of increasingly complex situations of selected movement forms

The student will:

  1. Recognize general characteristics of movement that can be applied to specific settings
  2. Identify the characteristics of higher skilled performance in a movement form
  3. Apply principles of practice and conditioning that enhance performance

Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity. (Physical Activity)

The student will:

  1. Identify the critical aspects of a healthy lifestyle
  2. Establish personal physical activity goals
  3. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of specific physical activities

The student will:

  1. Participate in moderate to vigorous physical activity in a variety of settings

  4. Begin to develop personal fitness goals independently

  2. Apply advanced movement skills and game strategies
