This month’s newsletter includes information on Galaxy Youth LGBT group, local pregnancy support services and Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s #NoPrideinDV campaign. /

Galaxy Youth LGBT Group

Galaxy, our youth group for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people aged 13-18 has been operating for 21 years and has changed many local young people’s lives.
One former member said:
“Galaxy gave me the knowledge and courage to be who I am without fear of ridicule. It gave me confidence to be proud of who I was regardless of what people thought. I couldn’t change who I was and because of Galaxy, I wouldn’t even try.”
If you meet a young person, or a parent/guardian of a young person who is questioning their sexual orientation or gender identity or any young LGBT people who would like to socialise with likeminded people, please don’t hesitate to encourage them to attend Galaxy.

#NoPrideinDV

Stoke-on-Trent City Council is running a campaign until the end of March encouraging LGBT victims of domestic violence to get support from Arch, North Staffordshire. The Sexual Health Prevention Team is supporting the campaign on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #NoPrideinDV.
There is a misconception that specialist domestic abuse support relates only to the experience of heterosexual women and men and the perceived lack of understanding could mean that those who identify as LGBT may not be getting the help and support they desperately need.
Whether the victim of domestic abuse chooses to stay in the relationship or not, it is important for them to know how to access support safely and to get help from specialist support services.
More information can be found on the Arch website at the following link:
Top chlamydia screening practices
January 2017
/ January saw four practices which submitted chlamydia screens; Keele University Health Centre was once again the top screening practice with four chlamydia screens!
One positive was received from Mayfield Surgery – great work by the team there.
