Awards Committee (Robinson)

June 29th is the first committee meeting for group members. Stephanie Reynolds from NASPA provided blueprint of what is intended as a template for steps to the award process. Committee will provide updates on the next call.

Fundraising Committee (Robinson)

Members: Bryan Hinnen, Paul Artale, Tray Robinson

First committee meeting will be scheduled soon. Correspondence with NASPA sent to understand what other KCs are doing in the fundraising realm.

Election Nomination Committee (Marsh)

Stephanie Reynolds from NASPA was contacted and soon we will be receiving information about the nominations and elections process. During fall 2017, an open nominations process will occur for our next KC chair-elect(s). A committee will be formed to review final slate of nominees. In January 2018, the nominee will be selected and attend NASPA meeting to shadow in next year during Amber and Tray’s second year. NASPA has historically preferred past-chairs to serve on committee, one reason for Brent’s participation. Brent will likely provide more details on the July call, updates pending.

Data Blitz Planning (Fallucca and Kareti)

Tray Robinson, Markesha Henderson, Leah Kareti, Eric Hartung, and Ali Teopas connected via a call earlier in the week. The focus of the meeting was on the timeline for data blitz planning and partnerships with other KCs to see about potential collaborations for the data blitz.

Tray connected with the Gender & Sexuality KC and they are on board to participate and help plan from the beginning. Another recommendation was to include those that are already planning on attending the NASPA conference to present and getting the word out early on the potential to present during the data blitz.

Leah is available to author the proposal this year with our planning focused on future steps with the initiative. One idea is to create a formal position for volunteer central. With insights from Leah, Amber will provide position description to share forward for review on the July call.

Eric and Allie will provide NCAA representation as a formal role player with data blitz.

Goal is to have concrete succession plan in place in this academic year with plan to have formalized plan moving forward. Tray will be following up with Gender and Sexuality KC to further define, realize timeline of September due date is key. A summer meeting is being planned with this KC to further develop data blitz idea moving forward.

Education Plan Updates (Henderson) (Supplement No. 2)

Markesha presented a proposal to combine education plan and research agenda (viewed in googledoc). Markesha reviewed other KCs with considerations for capabilities of NASPA website and functionality of the system. Through review of proposal, the idea is to reorganize education plan and research agenda into one initiative largely due to natural overlap of content focus and outward views of entities. Recommendation is to place both together on the website and organize so audience can view these entities in easier format, attractive to a variety of needs.

Section I. Understanding Athletic Culture

Section II. Supporting Student-Athlete Development

Section III. Athletics and Student Affairs Collaboration

Have documents and resources in centralized location. Also have opportunity to include outreach opportunities (data blitz, conference proposals). Also, this is an opportunity to use hyperlinks to be easily accessible and to add new resources.

Leah commented this looks good and wondered about analytics page functions for NASPA website. Amy provided update that NASPA team would be working on improving analytics functions.

Once approved, Markesha noted support would be needed to organize components through NASPA website. Amy offered to provide support to make the transition for NASPA content through provided templates. Naming conventions of tabs will be further considered to ensure both initiatives are represented. Amy will also help with additional SAKC website organization. Markesha will work with Amy from NASPA to upload the new information in the near future. Amy can also provide support for Fundraising and Award committee updates on the website once finalized.

NCAA National Convention Session (Hartung)

Amber provided update from email provided by Eric. In preparation of focus of NCAA convention session, question is what should we be emphasizing and how can we generate interest with considerations for the audience. Eric’s communication reiterated need for content that is practical with actionable take-aways. Ideal to have DI, DII, and DIII representation. With LGBTQ topics in mind, one question could be, “What have you done to make your athletics department more inclusive?” A potential challenge will be to find presenters that have done something innovative and compelling. Goal is to generate a list of presenters, people from NCAA membership who have done something innovative in this area. Question posed regarding potential organizations or individuals to pursue. Eric will provide continued updates on the next call.

KC Annual Publication (Fallucca)

Content due in early September. Looking for areas in content area of LGBTQ, adapt existing research or publications. Something that could represent our KC well. Brent provided insight about soliciting authors. Collective recommendations included:

o  Summer email out to the regions to write or suggest content (including providing other engagement updates). Tray and Amber will work together to get the email out to the regions this summer.

o  Leah plans to reach out to specific NCAA staff about new LGBTQ resource. Current article may be able to adapted for purposes of this publication.

o  Markesha noted the education plan had a link to previous KC publication for additional references utilized. SAKC also had publication on LGBTQ topics in previous 2016 KC publication. Markesha volunteered to revisit authors from previous KC publication. Also, Markesha will be seeking out authors through thesis, dissertation profiles as needed.

Other Updates (as pertinent)

o  Region Reps

o  NCAA Staff

o  NCAA DI, DII, and DIII Reps

o  N4A

o  NAIA

o  Partnerships with other KCs
