Sub: Class X – Work Experience Preferences for the Session 2011-12

Dear Parents,

The underlying intention of Work Experience is to harmonies Knowledge, Skills, Technology, Fun and Career Orientation and makes it an integral part of the Heritage Experiential Learning Process.

Recognizing the immense value which is embedded in Work Experience, we have been having informal conversations with students to develop various possibilities.

We now invite you to consider the following menu:

1) Commercial Art, including Calligraphy, Designing of Letterheads/Logos/Visiting Cards. Graffiti

Applicable fee for this course would be Rs. 4,800/- per participant covering the period Jul’11-Feb’12.

2) Sculpture, including clay modeling, 3D compositions, proportionate human figures, animal study, portrait study, wire armature with plaster of paris. Develop an understanding of aesthetics, for display of sculptures, indoors and outdoors.

Applicable fee for this course would be Rs. 4,800/- per participant covering the period Jul’11-Feb’12.

3) Pottery, including designing pots, practice wheel pottery (centering on the potter’s wheel), achieving independence while working on the potter’s wheel, utility items, art pottery, medium red clay, white clay, exposure to kiln firing, accompanying the teacher for kiln firing within the school.

Applicable fee for this course would be Rs. 4,800/- per participant covering the period Jul’11-Feb’12.

4) Textile Designing, including, developing an understanding of different fabrics and materials, introduction to embroidery, needlework, tie-n-dye, designing different products, tying, preparing colours, dyeing, preparing final products (stitching), block printing, refurbishing old fabrics and designing new outfits.

Applicable fee for this course would be Rs. 4,800/- per participant covering the period Jul’11-Feb’12.

5) Paper Technology, including, paper recycling, making handmade paper, making coloured handmade paper, designing utility products, photo-frames, lamp shades, stencil cutting, making their own diaries.

No fee is payable for this Experience.

6) Painting, including, study of lines, strokes, colours, shades, tones, textures, etc, while organizing two dimensional space with two dimensional and three dimensional shapes and forms. Sketching from nature and surrounding. Creatively use perspective. Still object study, human study, portrait study, composition with human figures. Using the medium pencil, charcoal, water colour, crayon, poster colour and acrylic colour on canvas and tools like painting brushes for water colours and acrylic colours, Painting surfaces such as papers of various kinds and quality, like smooth, rough, thick, thin, canvas etc.

Applicable fee for this course would be Rs. 4,800/- per participant covering the period Jul’11-Feb’12.

7) Printing, including monotype, stencil printing, line printing, collagraph, wood block printing, screen printing, etc., involving basic stages of printing inks, suitable paper, mono-colour, multi-coloured, registration for colour printing, printing/printing on press identical prints, cleaning up, edition and framing of prints.

Applicable fee for this course would be Rs. 4,800/- per participant covering the period Jul’11-Feb’12.

Please Note:

a) Activities 1 through 6 can be offered to a maximum of 12-15 students.

b) Activity 7 can be offered to a maximum of 7 students.

8) Meal Planning and Meal Preparation: A lot of students have shown great interest in learning Cooking. Recognising this high level of interest, we are pleased to offer Meal Planning and Meal Preparation as a Work Experience option for Class X students.

The tentative syllabus during the current year could include:

  1. Preparation of special menus like on different festivals, & special dishes for special age groups & sick persons, also dishes from different cultures.
  2. Dishes made by Fermentation like dosa, idly, bhatura; dishes made by germination like sprouts.

Right now, we are in a position to offer this option to a maximum of 10-15 students.

It may please be noted that participants would have to arrange for their own aprons, caps and gloves.

Applicable fee for this course would be Rs. 800/- per participant covering the period Jul’11-Feb’12.

9) Multimedia and Web-designing, including Corel Draw, designing developing 3D graphics and animations using Blender etc. The curriculum will be mostly based on freeware, so as to enable students to easily download and practice.

Right now we can offer this option to a maximum of 15 students.

No fee is payable for this Experience.

10) Explorer’s Club, is designed to promote autonomous and group learning of Science, Maths, Geography, Life Sciences, Ecology, etc. using technology as an important entry point. Typical topics which could be taken up for Class VIII would include magnetism, electricity, optics, geneticsetc.

This program can be offered to a maximum of 10-12 students.

No fee is payable for this Experience.

11) Western Vocal: This Experience will be anchored by professional external faculty and can be offered to a maximum of 12 students.

Applicable Fee is Rs 4,800 per participant covering the period Jul’11-Feb’12.

12) Keyboard: This Experience will be anchored by professional external faculty and can be offered to a maximum of 10 students.

Applicable Fee is Rs 4,800 per participant covering the period Jul’11-Feb’12.

13) Drums: This Experience will be anchored by professional external faculty and can be offered to a maximum of 5 students.

Applicable Fee for is Rs 4,800 per participant covering the period Jul’11-Feb’12.

14) Western Guitar: This Experience will be anchored by professional external faculty and can be offered to a maximum of 5 students.

Applicable Fee is Rs 4,800 per participant covering the period Jul’11-Feb’12.

15) Creative Indian Classical Dance: This Experience will be anchored by dedicated School faculty and can be offered to a maximum of 8 students.

No fee is payable for this Experience.

16) Indian Vocal: This Experience will be anchored by dedicated School faculty and can be offered to a maximum of 10 students.

No fee is payable for this Experience.

17) Slide Guitar: This Experience will be anchored by dedicated School faculty and can be offered to a maximum of 10 students.

No fee is payable for this Experience.

18) Theatre: This Experience will be anchored by dedicated School faculty and can be offered to a maximum of 10 students.

No fee is payable for this Experience.

19) Photography: We are happy to inform you that the School is developing a new Work Experience Programme, Shutterbugs.

The programme will be led by a professional photographer Jaswinder Oberoi in association with Canon.

The curriculum will involve a robust mix of all aspects of photography, so that students can have experience in still and moving photography, outdoor and indoor compositions, art photography, glamour photography, wildlife, use of black and white, use of colour and much more.

Students will maintain individual portfolios of their work through Flickr or blog accounts.

Students will have to bring their equipment for use during the programme, as directed by Sudha Ma’am, the School anchor for this programme.

Some sessions might be scheduled during early hours of the mornings on Saturdays and/or Sundays as sunrise is the best time for students to learn to work with light and shade. Parents would have to take care of transportation of their children.

Applicable Fee is Rs 4,800 per participant covering the period Jul’11-Feb’12 assuming a Batch Size of 20 students. Additional fee would be charged as and when special faculty are invited to interact with the students. Such an interaction might happen twice a year with well-known Photography professionals.

Students who had opted for Photography in Class IX would be given priority. Otherwise, the principle of First Come First Served will apply.

Photography is a new way of seeing the world. We invite our students to partake of this wonderful experience.

Participants in all programmes 1-19 will get School Certificates covering the specific Experience.

Please return the annexure duly indicating your ward’s first three preferences latest by 8thJuly’11.

Mode of payment: By Cash or Cheque drawn in favour of The Heritage School, Gurgaon immediately after allocation of the Work Experience option. It may please be noted that there are limited slots in each option and allocation will be on First Come First Served Basis.
