Archives & Special Collections Internship at Loyola Notre Dame Library, Baltimore, MD
Internship Description
Loyola Notre Dame Library's Archives & Special Collections seeks an intern to assist with various ongoing projects. The intern will gain practical experience in the archives field, including: collection management, archival processing, grant writing, preservation, digitization, reference work, exhibitions, and outreach.
Examples of previous projects include: Wikipedian-in-Residence; assisting with the development of a disaster preparedness plan; drafting Federal grant applications; processing a collection and creating an EAD finding aid using ArchivesSpace software; inventorying audio-visual materials with recommendations for digitization; and crafting posts for the Library’s social media platforms to highlight the Archives’ holdings.
Examples of potential future projects include, but are not limited to: creation of content for the apps History Pin and the Smithsonian's Museum of Main Street; continuing the Archives outreach initiatives through Social Media and other technological tools; assisting with the Archives’ upcoming exhibition for Book Arts Baltimore; and the processing of historic manuscript collections.
Responsibilities
Internship is 120 hours total. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Broad overview and assistance with as needed (30 hours)

- Specific archives internship project (90 hours)
- Creation and contribution to the History Pin or Smithsonian Museum on Main Street apps
- Assist with curation of upcoming Book Arts Baltimore exhibition
- Processing of a historic manuscript collection
Requirements
- Current MLS student; Archives tract preferred
- Excellent computer skills
- Excellent writing skills
- Detail oriented
- Enthusiasm for history and research
- Self-starter; ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand on ladders
- Must be able to work internship during hours of M-F, 9-5
