Dear Parent/Carer
Despite the horrible weather forecasts at the start of the week, the snow didn’t materialise in the volume that had been predicted. This meant that we have been able to carry on pretty much as usual, with just a few staff from further afield having problems.
Importantly we were able to conduct the English Literature exam with all our Y11 students on Wednesday morning. Staff and students had worked hard for this in preparation and would have felt cheated if we had had to act on our emergency closure procedures. We had made plans accordingly but thankfully these were not needed.
It was also nice to see so many of our students enjoying an old fashioned snowball fight on the lower school playground. We opened this during lunch time for them to enjoy the snow whilst it lasted, whilst other students and staff stayed warm and dry inside. I’m sure there’s an EU Health and Safety directive about this, but old fashioned fun still has a part in a child’s development.
We also had a few problems getting the school warm on Monday after the previous weekend which was very chilly indeed. Our excellent site staff thoughhave been able to ensure we are now almost tropical in most rooms.
Over the past few days I have tolerated the wearing of trainers and wellington boots etc. as well as extra warm non-school tops/jumpers. This is purely due to the horrible conditions of snow, ice and slush. This is now rapidly disappearing and conditions are due to return to normal over the weekend. Can you please ensure that your child is therefore in full school uniform on Monday.
My expectations remain the same regarding uniform, but unlike some other headteacher colleagues during these conditions I know that practicality and being warm are important.
