APPLICATION AND PARENT PERMISSION FOR CONSIDERATION

OF AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY FLORIDA GIRLS STATE PROGRAM

This application/permission form is required for all girls (this is a program for girls) who are entering their Senior year of high school and wish to be considered for the American Legion Auxiliary Florida Girls State Program. The applicant must be a legal resident of the State of Florida. The selection process is based on an essay, resume, interview, and the following characteristics exhibited by each candidate: interest in the study of government, leadership, character, honesty, scholastic standing, cooperativeness, community participation/service, and physical fitness.

The following must be complete, legible, and submitted, along with the essay and a resume, by the February 9, 2018 deadline. Deadlines will be strictly adhered to - NO exceptions! Mail to: Marjorie McNeill, Unit 13 Girls State Chair, 1540 Copperfield Circle, Tallahassee, FL 32312.

I understand that the above information will be used only by the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 13 to select the most qualified applicants to the Florida Girls State Program. I understand that I am required to attend the interview on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 1:00 pm at the American Legion Post 13, 229 Lake Ella Drive, Tallahassee. If chosen, I agree to abide by all program rules and procedures which will be explained.

If selected as a Delegate or Alternate, I understand that I, along with my parent, MUST attend the required District Orientation in order to participate in Florida Girls State.

Essay format: The essay "How can I encourage my classmates and friends to show pride in being an American," should be no more than 500 words, typed, double-spaced. The cover sheet must contain the following information: name and address of student, name and address of school, grade, and certification by teacher with signature.
