Mount Allison University Presents:
2016“Intersections & Connections”Conference
THEME: “Transition to Employment for University Graduates with Disabilities”
April 1st, 2016
Mount Allison University
Sackville, New Brunswick
Call for Proposals
The focus of Mount Allison’s 2016“Intersections & Connections”Conference will be on the transition from postsecondary studies to the world of work for students with disabilities. In particular, transition to employment for students with invisible disabilities – such as ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, and mental illness – will be explored. As these students near graduation, they are often concerned about the transition to employment and wonder “What kind of support can I expect?”; “What accommodations will be provided?”; “Should I disclose my disability?”; “Will I experience discrimination?”
The conference aims to bring together students, employers, service providers, practitioners, and scholars from the region to learn about the latest research and to explore best practices in expanding accessibility from postsecondary education into the workforce for students with disabilities, with a focus on practical and effective solutions that benefit both graduates and employers. As an outcome of the conference, a guide will be created to help students with disabilities navigate the world of employment.
The conference is open to all types of presentation styles and topics. Presentations may feature such things as but are not limited to open conversations, academic research, discussions of programs that facilitate employment for persons with disabilities, best practices for working with certain populations, retention strategies for employers, health and safety, and use of assistive technology and accommodations in the workplace.
Deadline for submissions is January 15, 2016.
