MYLOR PARISH CEMETERY

REGULATIONS – LAWN TYPE CEMETERY

Due to the recent need to extend the Parish Cemetery at Penarrow Road, Mylor, the Parish Council have had to review the cemetery regulations. In order to maximise the capacity of the cemetery it is necessary to limit the space taken by memorials. For the benefit of the relatives of the deceased, and the instruction of all funeral directors permitted to conduct their business in Mylor Parish Cemetery, the Parish Council have decided to issue the following specifications to preserve a well maintained and peaceful resting place.

1.  Headstones should not exceed a width of 2 feet 9 inches, be no higher than 2 feet 6 inches above ground level, and no greater than 6 inches in thickness.

2.  Headstone plinths or bases should not exceed 3 feet in width and 12 inches in thickness

3.  As this is a lawn type cemetery, the following will not be permitted;

a) Kerbstones, or any other additional construction/ornamentation

b) Flower holders/vases not within the confines of the headstone plinth

c) No other receptacles are acceptable

d) Planting of flowers or shrubs near the plinths or anywhere in the cemetery without

prior permission of the Parish Council.

4. Memorial plaques for cremated remains should not exceed 1 foot 8 inches by 1 foot 4

Inches in dimension and will be set in the ground to enable a mower to pass over them. A

vase may be set in the plaque.

5. The design, colour of design, and wording, on headstones or plaques must first

be approved by the Parish Council.

6. If a mechanical digger is used to dig graves, the following conditions apply;

a) Unloading diggers must be carried out on grassed areas

b) At no time should diggers be allowed to travel on, or traverse tarmac areas.

c) Any damage to grassed areas must be repaired/made good by the undertaker to the

satisfaction of the Parish Council.

d) Any damage to tarmac areas could result in the withdrawal of permission to use

the cemetery.

7. All graves should be refilled level with existing ground, and excess rubble removed from

the cemetery.

Fees and Payments as fixed by Mylor Parish Council on 06 October 2014 and with effect from 01 November 2014

The fees, payments and sums as set out below apply where the person to be interred is, or immediately before his or her death was, an inhabitant or parishioner of the Parish of Mylor, or in the case of a still-born child, where the parents (or one of them) are, or at the time of interment, were such inhabitants or parishioners.

In all other cases the fees, payments and sums will be doubled as indicated below.

The fees indicated in 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 exclude the cost of digging graves and the Minister’s fees.
