Provide a statement of 500 words or less describing what draws you to documentary storytelling, what experience you have with documentary storytelling, why you are interested in taking part in the Storytellers’ Institute, and what you hope to get out if the Institute. Please include information about how the Institute will build on your academic interests and what new directions you hope the Institute will take you in.

3. Topics and Mediums
Provide a statement of 500 words or less that includes what topics you might explore during the Storytellers’ Institute preparation course (3-credits, Spring 2018) and what medium(s) you are interested in working with e.g., film, video, audio, multimedia, performance, interactive media, etc. Please include information about your level of experience with the medium(s) you are interested in working with.
NOTE: You do not need to propose a specific project statement. Projects will be developed during the Storytellers’ preparation course and continued during the Storytellers’ Institute.

4. Portfolio
Please provide a work sample and a one-paragraph description of the work that gives background information on the project, explains how it relates to documentary storytelling or your creative practice in general, and how you hope your practice will evolve during the Storytellers’ Institute. Formats can include a short video, a series of photographs, a web-based project, a performance, a piece of non-fiction writing, etc. Please submit digital samples only.

PLEASE NOTE:

A FINAL REPORT must be submitted to the Director of MDOCS by August 1 immediately following the summer the Institute participation occurred.

The report includes:

1.  Summary of work accomplished during the Institute

2.  2-3 stills of the final work, work-in-progress, or student at work

Failure to file a final report may result in disqualification of the participant from future opportunities.
