WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES A UNION MAKE?

IT BENEFITS THE COMPANY AND THE WORKFORCE.

PRODUCTIVITY

Study Says Union Workers 27 Percent More Productive
Companies who use unionized workers are 27 percent more productive, according to a recent report published in Scientific American. Union workers also are more comfortable in bringing job specific changes to management because of job security.

Unions increase productivity, according to most recent studies. The voice that union members have on the job—sharing in decision-making about promotions and work and production standards—increases productivity and improves management practices. Better training, lower turnover and longer tenure also make union workers more productive.

BENEFITS

In 2005, 92 percent of union workers in the private sector had jobs providing access to medical care benefits, compared with only 68 percent of nonunion workers. Union workers also are more likely to have retirement and short-term disability benefits.

PROFITABILITY

The most profitable tobacco companies in the world are union. British American Tobacco-UNION. Philip Morris-UNION. Japan Tobacco-UNION. Lorillard-UNION. Ente Tabacchi Italiani (ETI)-UNION. Altadis-UNION. Reemtsma-UNION.
