Tulsa Area United Way Announces Three New Partner Agencies
The Tulsa Area United Way has announced the addition of three new partner agencies –
the Center for Employment Opportunities, Morton Comprehensive Health Services and Tristesse Grief Center.
The agencies will begin receiving United Way support in January 2014.
“We continuously examine the most pressing needs of the community and how we can best meet those through an optimal combination of partner agencies,” said Mark Graham, president and CEO of the Tulsa Area United Way.
The Tulsa Area United Way serves 650,000 people every year through its 62 partner agencies located in a six-county area.
Each year, more than 180 volunteers consider applications for United Way funding from current and prospective partner agencies. Each agency is carefully scrutinized by the volunteers who forward their funding recommendations to the United Way’s board of directors for approval each summer. If approved, the new funding requests become part of the United Way’s upcoming fall campaign, and allocations begin the following year.
The Tulsa Area United Way’s annual campaign will officially kick off at the MidFirst Backyard Bowl game between Jenks and Union High Schools on Sept. 13 and will conclude at the annual “Unite!” celebration on Nov. 14. However, many company and organizational campaigns are already underway, including “trailblazer”campaigns which launch their campaigns early during the summer.
Each of the United Way’s new partner agencies serve community needs through three “building blocksfor a better life” of education, health/safety and financial stability.
The Center for Employment Opportunities is dedicated to employment services to men and women with recent criminal convictions.
Morton Comprehensive Health Services provides health services to Tulsa area residents without regard to finances, culture or lifestyle, and provides information and support to promote participation in health care decisions.
Tristesse Grief Center offers comprehensive, long-term grief counseling to assist the bereaved as they journey toward improved health and a renewed sense of worth in the wake of loss.
