I / Job Title : Fundraising Events Manager

St. Giles Hospice
St Giles Hospice provides high-quality, individual care for local people living with cancer and other serious illnesses, as well as support for their families, friends and carers. Care is offered in a variety of ways according to the individual’s needs.
Services are offered from three main sites: Whittington, Sutton Coldfield and Walsall; as well as out in the community. Services include two state of the art in-patient centres; a day therapy centre including day hospice; a team of community-based clinical nurse specialists; hospice at home, supportive care, bereavement services,education centre and a Lymphoedema Clinic.
There is no charge to patients for the specialist hospice services we offer. We receive some funding from the NHS but primarily we rely on fundraising activities and legacies enable us to care for the people who need our care and support across much of Staffordshire, North Birmingham, Walsall and surrounding areas. St Giles employs over 400 paid staff and is supported by over1500 volunteers to provide our services.
II / Job Purpose:
The post holder is responsible for:
  • Generating new fundraising opportunities with a focus on events appropriate to individuals, the wider community and corporate sectors. They are also responsible for the implementation of effective income development, implementation of clear and effective fundraising plans and the project planning processes across the events function.
  • Growing income, year on year, working closely with the Community, Corporate and Legacy/IMO Fundraisers.
  • The effective planning and project management of activities and will be responsible for achieving related income targets and managing expenditure for these areas.
  • Managing their area of responsibility and achieving income targets within agreed ROI levels.
  • Managing events staff and volunteers including their training and development
  • Contributing to the wider fundraising strategy and will work closely with other members of the fundraising team, the Income Generation Manager and other income generation areas (such as Lottery & Retail) to achieve team targets, budget setting and implementing the team strategy for growth.

Specific Responsibilities
To be responsible for achieving the income targets set in the budget within expenditure levels and agreed by the Income Generation Manager
To be responsible for and ensure individual event activity project plans are developed, maintained, evaluated and updated at key intervals to include income and all costs, including pay and non-pay with Key Performance indicators and timescales in line with the strategy and targets set each year.
To be responsible for ensuring that all events and activities organised in-house are staffed appropriately and cost effectively.
Research, plan and implement new events/activities in line with the strategy and associated plans, undertaking feasibility studies for each new event/activity and carry out thoroughly costed proposals.
With the Income Generation manager and working closely with the Community/Corporate/Legacy/IMOs fundraisers/IGM agree the fundraising events strategies for ST Giles Hospice.
To be responsible for creating and planning approved strategies and targets, conducting research, and ensuring timely and cost effective delivery of plans for activities.
To be responsible for implementing relevant strategies for income growth as directed by the Income Generation Manager.
To ensure events fundraising team members are working according to the schedule and are kept fully abreast of targets, short and medium term and team performance.
To ensure that team members update project plans and keep records of all activities undertaken including their time spent on any project/activity.
Responsible for the line management and development of the Events fundraising assistant(s) and fundraising volunteers
Manage effectively the Events Fundraising Assistant and Events Volunteers.
Ensure staff receives 1-1 monitoring and feedback, annual and interim reviews are carried out and that staff work to the code of conduct.
To develop a range of tools so that individual project plans are easily updated by staff members including their time spent on any project/activity.
To develop annual budgets and income targets for the fundraising team based on analysis of previous results and identified opportunities, working closely with the Income Generation Manager and other members of the SMT.
Responsible for achieving Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) that is derived from the budget.
Responsible for fundraising staff and their performance against KPI's that derives from team targets.
To be responsible for implementing the strategy for income growth across as directed by the Income Generation Manager.
To be responsible for risk management of each fundraising activity organised in-house together with all legal responsibilities associated with events fundraising activities.
To be responsible for ensuring full risk assessments are carried out and meet the Hospices health & safety guidelines and standards.
To be responsible for ensuring each event is appropriately covered for any liability for which the Hospice must be insured.
Project manage flagship events directly and allocate responsibilities to relevant staff in the direct and wider team.
Contribute to the wider long term, three to five year fundraising strategy, to ensure growth and cost effective development of fundraising activities organised in-house and other events using external suppliers.
To communicate effectively with the Income Generation Manager on plans and developments as well as with fundraising team staff, marketing & PR and the wider income generation areas such as Retail and Lottery.
Be responsible for performance management of staff, their performance against budget and their personal development, ensuring succession planning.
Monitor and evaluate each event/activity within the post holders remit and report to the Income Generation Manager every month.
Develop new concepts for raising income in line with the remit of the post holder that raise new funds within agreed income/expenditure ratios.
To be responsible for meeting the needs of the corporate sector by working with the corporate team researching, developing and planning a portfolio of events/activities that are attractive to businesses and/or staff.
To work with the corporate & community fundraisers to generate financial support and funding for events.
To work with the Marketing/PR team so they can prepare marketing plans that demonstrate fully costed marketing initiatives and help meet budgeted participant level for all fundraising team activities.
To work with the Marketing/PR team to ensure relevant and branded materials online and offline are produced and distributed to agreed budgets and time scales.
To source suppliers and negotiate costs to ensure efficient purchasing of materials and keep within agreed expenditure and in line with the Hospice’s procurement policy.
Work with others within the team to ensure the opportunities to cross sell fundraising products are maximised.
Work with other members of the fundraising team and give support and guidance on Hospice events.
Ensure the hospice website and any micro-sites are completely up-to-date with Events information and registration options are maximised, both online and offline working closely with the Digital Marketing Executive.
Ensure all other online and offline marketing opportunities for Events are maximised, including through the shops company and via the hospice reception digital advertising screen, details of which should be included in a fully worked up marketing plan for each event, working with the marketing team.
To work in line with the Hospices purchasing procedures.
To source gifts in kind and auction prizes at every opportunity.
To help develop local contacts and business associates to assist with Hospice events/activities.
Work effectively with the PR and Comms team to ensure maximum media coverage for activities.
Work to the Hospices code of conduct and within all related Fundraising and Events legislation at all times.
To work flexibly as the role requires and be prepared to work outside normal office hours on a regular basis.
Monitor all financials in line with projections, reporting on variance and taking
Ultimate responsibility for achieving or exceeding income targets.
Develop and manage effective working relationships with donors and corporate and other volunteers championing both the cause and values of ST Giles Hospice to internal and external audiences.Keep up to date with current trends within the sector and implement where appropriate.
Maximise the potential of the donorflex database in recruiting new support and developing existing relationships, and utilise reports within the system to analyse and evaluate activity.
Maintain full and accurate records of all fundraising activity
Monitor and feedback competitor activity within the region as well as keep abreast developments both within the Hospice sector and wider charitable organisations nationally.
To ensure that all fundraising activities are in line with the mission, vision and value of St Giles Hospice.
Provide public talks and presentations where required about the charity to gain support from all areas of the community and manage that support.
To develop a good working relationship with fundraising team members, inter- department, Shops, Lottery and thorough the Hospice service delivery departments; and to ensure good communication throughout, utilising these relationships to maximise fundraising opportunities.
To develop a good working relationship with fundraising suppliers
To ensure that all fundraising activities meet with the Charity Commission requirements, the Charities Act, the Data Protection Act, insurers requirements and all other relevant statutes.
To ensure that all fundraising activities are undertaken in line with the Institute of Fundraising and Fundraising Standards Board (and its successor) guidelines.
To support fundraising projects when required.
All activity and duties to be undertaken in accordance with St Giles Hospice standard policies and procedures.

Scale of Pay: circa £24000 depending on experience Tenure: Full time
Holiday Entitlement: 27 days plus 8 Bank Holidays (Rising to 35 days with service)
