Mission Without Borders
Objectives and Background
Main Objectives
Mission Without Borders is an international Christian organization, dedicated to serving the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those suffering the effects of poverty or oppression.
By involving those it serves, Mission Without Borders recognizes the dignity of the individual and strives to help build capacity for self sufficiency. People are served without regard to their religion or ethnic background.
Background
Mission Without Borders is an independent charity registered with the Charity Commission, but linked to the international organization of Mission Without Borders, which has its headquarters in Camarillo, California USA. We have fundraising offices in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Holland, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa, Switzerland the UK and the USA, and support from individual donors, corporate and other organizations and churches in the West makes our work possible.
History
Mission Without Borders was founded in 1960 in response to the material and spiritual needs of people living in poverty or suffering persecution in Russia. Our work began when the Cold War was at its most intense. In Eastern Europe, a rigid political system had demanded strict loyalty, and those who dared to disagree suffered imprisonment and death. Literally millions of Christians were persecuted for their beliefs. Many paid with their lives and still do in various parts of the world. The unregistered underground church were our mission field, reflected in our name at the time – Underground Evangelism, and later Aid to the Persecuted.
Where We Work
Now the walls have collapsed Mission Without Borders experiences exceptional co-operation from the governments of Albania, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine. These are our current field countries. Long-term local presence in these countries, as well as the employment of local national staff, enables Mission Without Borders to identify and address the most important and urgent needs.
