Classroom Notes for Room 30

Week of October 2-6, 2017

Monday is Day #2 of our five-day specials schedule.

Grandparents Day- It was a pleasure to have so many guests on Friday for Grandparent’s Day. I wish I had more time to visit with each family. Earlier in the morning, our Jack told me that he couldn’t get to sleep until after 11:00 PM because he was so excited about the day. That is when I knew this was a BIG deal! Please thank your family members that made big efforts to be here.

A student found a small hoop earring right after the grandparents left. Please claim the earring if you recognize it.

Wander Indiana Project- The “Student Proposal” is due on Friday, October 6th. I will attach a document with some ideas. Students might want to look through their SS text for ideas, or talk to family members with a connection to Indiana.

Book Fair!- Student took home flyers last week for our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair. The visits will take place during their time in World Language Specials.

-Gold Team Thursday, Oct. 5

-Purple Team Friday, Oct. 6

-Read and White Teams- Tuesday, October 10 (Due to Author Visit)

-Blue Team- Wednesday, Oct. 11

Author Visit- Our MGES PTO is hosting an author visit from Alan Katz on Monday, October 9th!

Parent-Teacher Conference Scheduling- Scheduling for the October 10th and 11th Parent-Teacher Conferences began on Friday, Sept. 22nd. I will have some alternate times available. We hope to have 100% participation. Please sign up early for the best choices!

A Note from Transportation: Rick Pederson, Director of Transportation, shared today that students are not to ride the bus home with a friend. Our buses are very full and cannot accommodate extra students. The only exception is if the parent has contacted the transportation department due to an extenuating circumstance (parents out of the country, etc.).

Pizza Hut Book It! Reading Program- We ask your help in expecting outside reading time with a program from Pizza Hut called Book It! Each month, we will send home a calendar to document outside reading time. An adult is needed to initial the times throughout the month. When your child reaches the goal for the month, please return the calendar for a certificate for a personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. (Coupons expire after 30 days.) I see the program as an expected part of reading. For the month of October, students need to read 250 minutes. Each month, the goal increases by 50 minutes. Calendars are to be returned by the first school day of the next month.
