- The programme will be delivered using a blended learning system on a part-time basis from May 2014 until April 2015
- Each module will require 20 hours class contact time. (One evening per week for 4 weeks and one Saturday.)
- Learners will receive comprehensive material with each module being completed. The material will contain all relevant programme content as well as the FETAC component specification, helpful study skills tips and copies of the assessment briefs and associated paperwork.
- All modules aremandatory
Who should complete this course?
- All Childcare Staff, Managers and Supervisors who wish to meet the educational requirements of the ECCE scheme.
- Childcare Staff who wish to gain an accredited qualification in childcare or those aiming to progress to supervisory and management roles.
Entry Requirements / Prerequisites
- Leaving Cert (or equivalent)or aFETAC Level 5 major awardin any area (certificates must be provided).
- Applicants must currently be working, or on work experience, in the childcare sector for a minimum of 6 hours per week.
- Childminders must have access to an ECCE setting to complete some assessments.
- A basic working knowledge of computers and access to a computer with internet access is required to do the course.
- Learners undertaking this Award will be working either in a voluntary/student or employee capacity within the Early Years field (including childminding professions) at time of application or, will have a background in early years education/teaching and be pursuing a position in same. The Learner must have access to an early years environment and will be seeking to develop and/or increase their knowledge (theoretical & practical) and understanding of children between the ages of 0 &
- We do not guarantee students will complete all modules within this time frame, this is the responsibility of individual students
About the Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education
This major award meets the educational requirements as set out for the ECCE scheme. The course has been designed to equip all staff with the recognised qualification and full accreditation within a 10 month duration.
WCP Mullingar will offer The Early Childhood Care & Education Programme through the provision of a comprehensive delivery of childcare related subjects across eight modules to individuals exploring a career within the Early Years sector.
The primary focus of the programme will be on the current early childcare frameworks - Aistear & Siolta. The module delivery will incorporate a range of teaching approaches to support learners in up skilling their techniques to encourage engagement and connectedness with the children with whom they work. The principals of the Siolta & Aistear Frameworks will be explored in the context of effective practice with an emphasis on developing the Learners’ ability to utilize the frameworks on a practical level.
By way of study (via the various methods to be employed throughout the delivery of the award) the Learner will be encouraged to develop and enhance across a number of attributes which will include:
A – Knowledge – The Learner will explore themes within the component modules that have particular significance to the age group they are keen to work with
B – Skills – The Learner will approach unfamiliar situations when carrying out practical work with children & colleagues & develop the confidence to explore new ideas and solutions and so respond positively and/or constructively
C – Reflective – Learners will be encouraged to give thoughtful consideration to their own learning through careful critical & constructive analysis of their personal & professional strengths & weaknesses
D – Competence – Learners will develop a sound grasp of the principles of reasoning with children & demonstrate initiative, integrity, sincerity & sensitivity
Exemptions
It is possible to gain exemptions from certain components of the course. If you already hold a qualifying FETAC award, or any childcare award, please contact and we will advise you of available exemptions.
Fees per Module: €180 payable before the commencement of each module. Preference will be given to students completing the full award.
