NUT GRIFFIN TRUST BRIEFING
SPRING TERM 2014
This briefinggives information on pay and conditions and other matters in Griffin Trust Academies. This briefing focuses on two key issues:
- academy pay and appraisal policies, following discussions at national level; and
- academies’ participation inlocal facilities time arrangements allowing local union officers to support members in schools and academies.
The NUT is also sending NUT members in Griffin Trust Academies the first of a planned series of email briefings. This will also be copied to everyone who receives this briefing.
Griffin Trustpay policy
Has the pay policy been published in final form? –
No. Discussions with the Trust are at an early stage.
Has it been agreed with the trade unions including the NUT? -
See above.
Comments on the pay policy -
In the absence of a Trust policy, schools will be using the predecessor LA policy as the basis for their pay policy. Discussions with each school should reflect the NUT / NASUWT joint checklist.
Griffin Trustperformance management / appraisal policy
Has the PM/appraisal policy been published in final form? –
No. Discussions with the Trust are at an early stage.
Has it been agreed with the trade unions including the NUT? -
See above.
Comments on the PM/appraisal policy –
The same position applies as with pay policies.
Facilities time
Has the chain agreed that academies will make payments into local facilities pots? -
See below.
Comments on the position -
As yet there is no formally agreed recognition agreement. It is hoped that the Trust will agree to contribute to LA pots but agreement has not yet been reached.

NUT training for Academy representatives
The NUT is planning a one-day training and briefing meeting at national level for NUT reps in Academy chains including Griffin Trust reps later this term. The meeting will be held on Wednesday 2 April 2014 at NUT headquarters and further details will be circulated shortly. The NUT will be writing to the Griffin Trust to ensure that Academies are advised that reps are entitled to time off with pay to attend.
