Principal’s Meeting Guide

This meeting guide provides principals with the following information:

·  General overview of the SDMC meeting, including recommended activities to engage in prior, during, and after the meeting

·  SDMC meeting agenda

·  Instructions for submitting SDMC input on suggested improvements to the appraisal and development system

I.  General Overview of SDMC Meeting

The objectives for this meeting are for SDMCs to:

§  Review the suggested improvements to the appraisal and development system and ensure that all members understand each improvement and rationale

§  Build input on the suggested improvements to be submitted to HISD

Activity / Description
Prior to the Meeting / §  Please print copies of the SDMC Member Handout, DNA(LOCAL) and DNA(REGULATION) for all SDMC members. This handout outlines each proposed change, the rationale for each change, and discussion questions to help build your SDMC input.
§  Review all the documents emailed to you so that you become familiar with the resources and content you will discuss.
During the Meeting / §  Follow the Meeting Agenda on page 2 of this document.
After the Meeting / §  Principals must complete two tasks:
o  Review the “Instructions for Submitting Recommendations” document (on page 2 of this document)
o  Submit, or have a designee submit, the SDMC input on the suggested improvements to the appraisal and development system using an on-line form by May 10, 2013.

II.  SDMC Meeting Agenda

Activity / Suggested Time / Description
Welcome and Sign-In / 5 minutes / §  Welcome members and distribute handouts.
§  Present meeting objectives.
Discuss Current Proposal / 20 minutes / §  Review the “SDMC Member Handout” as a group. Ensure that each member understands each proposed change and the rationale for the change by providing the opportunity for members to ask questions.
Build Input / 48 minutes / §  3 minutes: Read the feedback questions to the SDMC members. Each SDMC member has the list of questions on their handout.
§  30 minutes: Discuss the SDMC members’ feedback on each of the suggested improvements using the discussion questions in the “SDMC Member Handout” to facilitate discussion.
§  15 minutes: Complete the online recommendation, using the “Instructions for Submitting Input” as a guide.
Conclude Meeting / 2 minutes / §  Principals or their designees submit the SDMCs’ input on-line by May 3, 2013.

III.  Instructions for Submitting Input

§  All SDMCs must submit their input using an online form by May 10, 2013.

§  Every principal will receive an email from the Effective Teachers Initiative that contains a unique link to an online Survey Monkey form that will allow your school’s SDMC to submit its input. These unique links will be sent directly to principals between April 22 and April 26.

§  If the principal does not receive an email with the link to the online form by the close of business on April 19, 2013, please contact to request the link. The link principals will receive is unique to each school’s SDMC. Therefore, principals should not use a link forwarded by another principal.
