Chair’s Report:

RAC Liaison’s Report:

·  Looking at URP process

·  New WS form on website

·  New training materials to be posted on website

·  From Tech Council, ask for extra money [from reserve fund]

·  At end of project, do something with data from project ask for additional funds

·  2 RTARs – weather stations to understand weather at height, contaminants difference at height; 3 cities; Wessel comment: maybe get co-sponsor from Section 4

-  ASHRAE code of ethics:

o  “…… We shall avoid real or perceived conflicts of interest whenever possible, and disclose them to affected parties when they do exist.”

-  YEA members – encourage young ASHRAE professionals to join TCs

o  New Web application from ASHRAE to automates the calculations to show a building project’s compliance with 90.1 using the Energy Cost Budget Method. Learn more at:

o  Focus in residential [Leung – research in Switzerland shows better health on upper levels; ground levels has most diseases]

Four New Multidisciplinary Task Groups (MTGs) have been formed since Atlanta meeting

§  MTG.ASEC – Avoided Source Energy Consumption Due to Waste Heat Recovery and Heat Pump Technologies [Leung to nominate Dharkar]

§  MTG.IAST – Impact of ASHRAE Standards and Technology on Energy Savings/Performance

·  Scope: MTG.IAST will generate research proposal(s) and work with the selected consultants/contractors to conduct research, collect and organize the data in a useful and conveniently summarized format for Initiative 1B of the Society Strategic Plan

The chair of this MTG is Dan Pettway.

§  MTG.ISPAQE – Indoor Swimming Pool Air Quality and Evaporation [Leung to nominate Werman]

§  MTG.OBB - Occupant Behavior in Buildings [

·  Scope: MTG.OBB will coordinate TC/TG/TRG technical activities to help implement the recommendations from this MTG. This includes coordinating efforts in education, modeling, research, standards, marketing, advocacy, and fund raising within ASHRAE. Research project initiation as the sponsoring committee is included in the scope of this MTG.

The chair of this MTG is Tianzhen Hong.

o  Roster to section head then to staff – TC members should receive roster update

o  Simmonds proposes change to title, purpose, and scope:

§  TC 9.12 is concerned with the design, function, operation, energy, occupant comfort and human safety for Tall (higher than 300ft), Supertall (higher than 1000ft), and Megatall (higher than 2,000ft) buildings in excess of 300 feet in height.. Also included is the determination of requirements related to hydraulics, airflow, infiltration, thermal insulation, water vapor retarders, environmental control, fire and smoke control and maintenance.

Motion by Simmonds, second by Webb, to revise the TPS as written above
