FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Farewell to Me and You

The day that we’ve been talking about for so long has come at last. This Sunday afternoon I will be packing up myfew remaining belongings and departing after 26 years as your pastor. I’m sure there will be some tears in my eyes since you are all very dear to me, and I know I am going to miss you very much. We’ve been through a lot together and our lives will be forever joined. I wish St. Peter the Fisherman (that’s all of you!) the very best and continued growth in the Spirit. This has been a great community to serve, and I am proud of all the things we have accomplished together. Keep up your good work as joyful servants in the Lord’s vineyard.

Fr. Randy Knaufwill be in the door almost immediately. I think he should be arriving around noon on Tuesday. I know you’ll welcome him warmly. I did tell him that I’m clearing all the food out of the house as I go, so he can start fresh. But you folks might seize upon that as a good way to welcome your new pastor—show up at the door with a basket of food items (e.g., pancake mixes & syrups), or maybe some fresh brats from Trig’s, or maybe a bottle of wine. Remember the old saying: the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.

From now on and hopefully for many years (God willing) you can find me in Iron River (WI). Or, since I still have some Rhinelander responsibilities (with my brother Donald and for my sister Mary Jo), you will occasionally find me back in the general area. Or, since I will be doing parish help-outs once my leisurely summer is over, you might stumble upon me presiding at the altar some place in the diocese. Who knows, that could even be some Sunday back here in Eagle River! Until then, farewell and God be with you!

Memorial Weekend Totals

We expected a good “final count” on Memorial Day weekend. We got that. We tallied 508 chips, which we guess to be 90% of those present. Below are the numbers of that final count:

PROFILE / COUNT / PERCENT
Yr-rnd Parishioner / 181 / 35.6%
Season Parishioner / 34 / 7.3%
Yr-rnd Non-registered / 24 / 4.7%
Season Non-registered / 59 / 11.6%
1stTime Visitor / 15 / 3.0%
Repeat Visitor / 192 / 37.8%

Now it’s the Pastoral Council’s job to analyze the four rounds of “counting” and see what actions it demands and/or inspires a la our parish goals.

WEEKLY LIFE-LONG FORMATION QUESTIONAdult:When we are welcoming, forgiving and generous, we may be criticized, but how does that connect us to Christ?

Child: Standing up for your faith means doing good even when it is easier not to. When have you experienced this?

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

With the announced retirement of Nadean Stahl at the end of July, St. Peter the Fisherman Parish is now seeking a part-time music director. A passion for music, faith and your Church community are a must. If you are interested or know of someone who may be, please contact the parish office at 715-479-8704.

JOINING THE PARISH

All who regularly worship with us are invited to become formal members of the St. Peter the Fisherman “village” by registering as parishioners. Membership has its benefits! And it also helps our ministries and staff to meet the needs of the community. To register as a member of the parish, please complete one of the Preliminary Registration Forms on the table in the gathering space and place them in one of the baskets on the table.

CAN YOU HELP?

Following the Saturday and Sunday Masses on June 7th and 8th, we will be hosting receptions welcoming Fr. Randy Knauf. If you are able to help out or provide any delectable treats for this event, please contact Ruth Janz at 715-477-3294.

TICKET SALES ARE HERE!

St. Peter’s is hosting a 50/50 RAFFLE. Tickets are available after each Mass and at the office, starting May 24th. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25. The drawing will take place at the FISH BOIL, July 19th. Tickets for the fish boil are also available now. Adults are $12; children 12 and under are $5. Good luck and remember: the more raffle tickets you buy, the better your chances of winning! You need not be present to win.

NATIONAL CONCERN COLLECTION

On June 14 and 15 the National Concern Collection will be held in parishes in the Diocese of Superior. This year a fifth cause, the Archdiocese for Military Services Collection, will be added. AMC is a new initiative that provides support for a church entity. It is not a part of the Armed Forces and is not funded by the federal government. It is a “home” mission diocese that depends entirely on financial support from individual donors. The AMC provides for the spiritual, sacramental and pastoral care of the 1.8 million Catholics serving the armed forces, their family members, students at the Military Academies, and patients in VA medical centers. Separate envelopes for this cause will be provided. Please see next weekend’s bulletin for a special insert regarding this addition. There are great ministerial needs everywhere in our mission diocese. I ask that you simply give what you can, and to pray for a vibrant Catholic Church here in northern Wisconsin.
