We Continue to Challenge Ourselves to Learn New Things! in Math, We Worked on Area

Dear Parents,

I look forward to seeing many of you next week at Conferences – thanks for your help setting up my schedule! Thanks, too, for having such wonderful looking children ready for Picture Day this past Monday. It was fun to see everyone’s clothing for Spirit Week, too! 

We continue to challenge ourselves to learn new things! In Math, we worked on area, multiplication and division story problems, did a Kansas Day activity, and took a practice State Assessment test over real world multiplication and division problems.Reading lessons were over prefixes & suffixes, poetry, drawing conclusions, context clues, and a practice test for State Assessments. Our Social Studies lessons have been over Kansas facts, our national government, and a review of maps and globes.

Please have your child start the February Reading Goal.A fiction chapter book (60+ pages) and a non-fiction book that are at his/her Lexile level are needed for this month. Have your child read it independently. When the book is read, send it back so an Accelerated Reader test can be taken here at school. 80% or higher is a passing score. This goal will be due by Wednesday, February 28th.

Spelling words for next week are attached – words with re-, un- and dis- prefixes. The test over those will be next Thursday, February 8th. Homework is attached, as well. Math homework (due Tues.) is over addition with regrouping and finding mistakes. Reading homework (due Thurs.) is over contractions.There is also a Class List for Valentine’s Day cards attached – those can be brought in at any time.

Attached is a note stating your Conference time for either next Thursday (2/8) or the following one (2/15).I look forward to seeing you then!

Also: there is NO SCHOOL next Friday, February 9th, due to construction in the district.
