Job profile:Domestic Bursar
Location:Newman House, University Chaplaincy and Student Hostel
Reporting to:Senior University Chaplain
Job Purpose:To oversee the day to day management and development of Newman House
Main areas of responsibilities:
Properties and facilities management:
- Maintenance (liaising with Diocesan Property Manager)
- Planning major works, repairs and renewals.
- Management of catering and cleaning contracts.
- Tenancy agreement.
- Health and safety.
- Quality assurance.
- Resident’s contracts and summer bookings.
- HMO (House in Multiple Occupation) and charity law compliance.
- Developing of summer hostel and conference facilities.
- Pricing and publicity for summer hostel and conference facilities.
- House safeguarding policies.
Human resources management of in-house staff:
- Recruitment (liaising with Diocesan HR)
- Contracts.
- Inductions, supervision and performance reviews.
- Line management.
- Record keeping.
- Salary amendments.
Financial management:
- Drawing up annual budget in collaboration with Diocesan finance Office.
- Monitoring budgets.
- Monthly management accounts.
- Quarterly accounts for Accounts Dept.
- Data entry for Accounts Dept.
- Record keeping.
- Invoicing.
- Payments.
- Banking.
- VAT.
- Development of existing and new revenue streams.
Chaplaincy:
- Working in chaplaincy administrative team.
- Support for wider university chaplaincy and staff (contracts, payroll, financial, safeguarding compliance, ect)
- Support to Senior Chaplain via weekly meetings and in strategic planning and long-term development of Newman House, ect.

Contract Type:Permanent
Salary:£35-38k per annum (neg)
Hours of work:35hours per week(9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday)
Experience required
- General administrative/management experience.
- Experience as administrator/bursar or equivalent role is desirable
- Experience of HR management: working in a team, recruiting and supervising others.
- Experience of financial management.
- Understanding of and empathy with the moral and social teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Interest in the mission of Neman House (the pastoral care of university students); interest in the lives of students and young adults.
Competences required
- Ability to lead and manage others; to work as a member of the wider Newman House team.
- Ability to build good working relationships with colleagues, staff, contractors, ect.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills.
- Good numeracy; financial and budget management skills.
- Good typing and IT skills; good knowledge of MS Excel.
- Ability to learn new skills, to multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Self-motivating and ability to work with wider Diocesan structures (Finance, Payroll, HR, ect.)
- Creativity and strategic thinking.
Qualifications required
- Intermediate Microsoft Office Software package (Word, Excel, Publisher)
- Book-keeping, with particular experience of financial accounting computer programmes
