ACTIVE LEARNING WEEK 4th – 8th July 2016
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS & STUDENTS
This sheet provides additional information that you will need for some of the activities your child is taking part in during Active Learning Week 2016 – 4th – 8th July and is to be read alongside the full Active Learning Week booklet that can be found on the College website (under the Adventure Learning Section) and on the VLE.
There is a list on display in each tutor room that shows what activities your child will be taking part in and where to meet each day.
If your child is unsure of what they are doing on each day a list will be availablein Reception and posters will be displayed around College showing where the group are to meet.
For all activities your child does not need to wear their normal school uniform.

Your child will not be able to take part in any of the activities without full payment being received and Parental consent forms being returned for some non-school based activities.
COLLEGE BASED ACTIVITIES:-
The College canteen will be open as normal for school based activities. Break time will be 11.10-11.30am and lunch time will be 1.30-2.15pm.
FILM WEEK – Monday to Thursday will be based in College. The group will travel to The VueCinema in Plymouth on the Friday to see an age appropriate film. Packed lunch/money for lunch will be needed for Friday. If your child is entitled to free school meals a packed lunch will be provided for them by the College canteen.
LOOKIING GOOD, FEELING GOOD:-Wednesdayand Thursday will be based in school. On Wednesday students will take part in a Zumba session, so will need to bring in a PE kit. Students will take part in a fashion show on Thursday and may wish to bring in their own make up to try new techniques. On Tuesday students will visit Plymouth to see fashions and make up products. Packed lunch/money for lunch will be needed for Tuesday. If your child is entitled to free school meals a packed lunch will be provided for them by the College canteen.
DANCE:- wear trainers and suitable clothes for dancing and bring plenty of drinks.
SPORTS: you will need your PE kit and trainers each day and bring plenty of drinks.
WILD WOODLANDS – this will be based in our Adventure Learning Centre. It is advised that you wear old clothes and trainers (and/or wellingtons) that you are suitable for this 2 day activity. Students will remain in the ALC during break time but will be able to use the College canteen at lunchtime. Remember to bring with you enough food and drink to last until lunchtime.
COOK ALFRESCO – this will be based in our Adventure Learning Centre. It is advised that you wear old clothes and trainers (and/or wellingtons). Students will remain in the ALC all day and will not be able to use the College canteen at break or lunch time. There is no need for a packed lunch as they will be cooking their own lunch.
NON-COLLEGE BASED ACTIVITIES:-
Your child will need a packed lunch and drinks to last the day. If your child is entitled to free school meals a packed lunch will be provided for them by the College canteen.
If your child suffers from travel sickness please make sure they let the teacher in charge know so that they can sit at the front of the coach.
Appropriate clothing and footwear for the type of activity and weather on the day: ie shower mac, sun hat, sun cream, change of clothes and towel if necessary.
Students must listen carefully to all instructions given by College staff and instructors/staff at all the activities. Good behaviour is expected from all students.
ULTIMATE CHALLENGE AND WET’n’WILD – itineraries for these have been issued separately to students and are available to view on the College website and VLE.
HORSE RIDING – students to meet at the stables at Polson at 8.50am and be picked up by parents no later than 3.15pm. A separate more detailed letter has been sent to parents.
SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING – students will need to wear clothing that fully covers their arms and legs, and a pair of gloves and socks must also be worn. The ski centre offer a ‘meal deal’ of chips and a drink for £2 per day.
TREE SURFING:-this activity is provided by fully qualified instructors. Appropriate clothing and footwear is to be worn.
NEWQUAY ZOO: students will experience an ‘Animal Encounter’ session and then have time to explore the zoo.Appropriate clothing and footwear is to be worn.
SKATE ‘n’ SWIM:- students will be ice skating at Plymouth Pavilions in the morning and then travel to Meadowlands in Tavistock for a wet’n’wild swimming session. Skates are provided by the Pavilions but swimwear and towel will be needed for the swimming session.
FEADON FARM:- students will be able to see lots of British Wildlife and have an interactive session with some of the animals. Appropriate clothing and footwear is to be worn.
PLYMOUTH AQUARIUM:- students will get a guided tour and interactive‘Plastic Soup’ workshop.
GO-KARTING & LASER TAG:- these take place at Plymouth Indoor Karting. Full safety instructions will be given by marshalls and laser tag operators.Appropriate clothing and footwear is to be worn.
TRETHORNE: students will have a game of ten-pin bowling and then have time to spend in the park. Students must follow the hygiene rules when petting the animals.
CORNWALL CREALY:-these parks have water rides – your child will most probably get wet! – change of clothes/towel advisable.
CAMEL TRAIL CYCLING:-cycles and helmets provided by Camel Cycle Hire. The group will cycle from Wadebridge to Padstow. Your child may wish to bring money for a snack or ice cream in Padstow before the return ride back to Wadebridge.Appropriate clothing and footwear is to be worn.
