DearParent/ Carer,
Scottish Disability Sport in partnership with Forth Valley Disability Sport and Active Schools Teams from Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmannanshire are organising a disability multi-sport event for young people with a visual or hearing impairment or a physical disability across Central Scotland. Details as follows;-
Central Parasport Festival 2017
Date: Wednesday25th October 2017
Time: 10.00am – 2.45pm (9.30am arrival and registration)
Venue: The Peak, Stirling FK8 1QZ
Currently, there are few children and young people with a visual or physical disability involved in sport in Central Scotland. At local, regional and national level there are numerous options for children and young people to train and compete but sadly not enough from the Central area take up these opportunities.
Previously the London/Rio Paralympic Games and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games exceeded all expectations in changing minds and attitudes about people with disabilities and their sporting ability, we are hopeful the 2018 Goldcoast Commonweath Games will also emulate this. The Parasport Festival has been set up to encourage children and young people with a disability to try a new sports activity and perhaps thereafter join a club or an activity session so they can access the health and social benefits of being active. Also should a pupil demonstrate potential in any sports there will be staff from Scottish Disability Sport/ Scottish Governing Bodies undertaking talent identification at the event, and will signpost these children to relevant opportunities so they can progress in their chosen sport.
This event will allow pupils to try a new sports for the first time and to demonstrate the values that underpin the Paralympic Games and Commonwealth Games in both their sporting activities and general behaviours.
