Joyce Nichols Scholarship Application

This scholarship fund was established to honor the memory of Joyce Bristol Nichols, a long time Tumwater resident and community librarian at the Tumwater Timberland Library. Her efforts built the new library across from TumwaterHigh School and forged a partnership between the library, the city and the school. Joyce Nichols saw her two daughters graduate from THS. She was, for many years, an ardent supporter of the THS football team. She died in January 1996. She is remembered for her exemplary community service, for her neighborliness and for her thoughtfulness, warmth and compassion.

The Joyce Nichols Scholarship recognizes a graduating Tumwater High/Black Hills High student who combines scholastic ability, good character, a record of community service and a knack for understanding and reaching others. The scholarship money is determined by the interest earned on the investment*, and is to be used to support post-secondary education (for example: College, art school, or vocational school). Preference will be shown to students who are preparing to study the humanities or fine arts, or entering a helping field such as education, health services, social work or library science.

*Current interest earnings are very low. Due to this, we have simplified the process for this application. Expected payout for 2015-16 is approximately $300.00.
