AHOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE TERRY MARTIN, PRINCIPAL OF PATE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN DARLINGTON, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT, TO COMMEND HER FOR HER MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS AN EDUCATOR, AND TO WISH HER MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives honors those individuals who give tirelessly of themselves to the welfare of this great state’s most precious resource, its children; and

Whereas, Terry Martin, retiringprincipal of Pate Elementary School in Darlington, stands among their number as an outstanding educator, one much admired in hercapacity as both administrator and role model for her students; and

Whereas, in preparation for her career, Terry Martin earned her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Francis Marion University, followed by a master’s degree in elementary education from the same institution. In addition, she received certification in administration and supervision from Winthrop University and participated in postgraduate studies in language and literacy at the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Mrs. Martin,now in her seventh year as principal of Pate Elementary, considers herself blessed to be able to work with young children every day. Under her watch, the school has excelled, being named an NCLB Blue Ribbon School by the US Department of Education and a winner of the Exemplary Writing Award by the South Carolina State Department of Education. In addition, Pate is recognized by the SCDE as a Red Carpet recipient, based on its friendly and involved school community. The school also has been recognized at the district level for the past three out of four years as the Clean School of the Year; and

Whereas, more than just a principal, Mrs. Martin has taught methods, curriculum, and assessment courses for Francis Marion University, the University of South Carolina, and Coker College. Her training in learning style theories, cooperative learning, and language arts instruction have provided many opportunities to share her knowledge of these subjects with colleagues in the Darlington County School District, the Pee Dee area, and throughout the Palmetto State. Further, she is a certified coach in language and literacy for South Carolina; and

Whereas, on the home front, Terry Martin and her husband, Roy Martin, have a fine family of two children, Melanie and Justin, as well as a delightful granddaughter, Lily. During Mrs. Martin’s wellearned retirement, the House trusts she will find herself indulging in increased family time, along with her favorite pastimes of reading, writing, and traveling; and

Whereas, having made her mark and set the bar of achievement high in her profession, Terry Martin, beloved by students, parents, faculty, and staff, will be remembered with affection and gratitude for many years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Terry Martin, principal of Pate Elementary School in Darlington, upon the occasion of her retirement, commend her for her many years of dedicated service as an educator, and wish her much happiness and fulfillment in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Terry Martin.
