Cell Model Project

Due Date: Friday, April 14th, 2017

Instead of homework from March 27th-April 14th students will work on this hands-on project at home.

1)Make some type of 3D model or visual representation of both a plant AND animal cell.

2) You must include and label the parts of the cell. You may either make a key or label them directly on your model.

3) You will need to deliver a short presentation explaining the similarities and differences of the plant and animal cells.

4) It is not necessary to buy any materials for this project. Be creative and use what you already have at home:

You must include and label the following parts of each cell:
Animal Cell
cell membrane
cytoplasm
nucleus / Plant Cell
cell membrane
cell wall
cytoplasm
nucleus
chloroplasts

Rubric

Meets expectations (5) / Progressing (3) / Does not meet (1) / Score
Accuracy / All cell parts are represented in a way that demonstrates scientific knowledge of each part. The parts in each cell are accurate. / 6-7 parts are represented accurately and are found in the appropriate plant or animal cell. / 5 or fewer parts are represented accurately OR parts are mixed up between the plant and animal cells.
Creativity / Student used a variety “found” materials in a unique way to represent each part. (Ex: yarn wrapped around for cell membrane) / Student attempted to use “found” materials to represent each part, but some representations are unclear. / Most representations of cell parts are unclear or the same material is used for all cell parts.
Labels / All 8 parts are labeled appropriately and clearly with correct spelling. / 6-7 parts are labeled appropriately with correct spelling. / 5 or fewer parts are labeled appropriately or more than 3 parts are misspelled.
Presentation / Student could explain their representations AND the differences between the plant and animal cells. / Student could explain either their representations OR the differences between the plant and animal cell. / Student cannot clearly explain their representations or the differences between the plant and animal cell.
