Dear Parent / Guardian,5th March 2014

I write with reference to your son/daughter’s Geography GCSE Controlled assessment which is worth 25% of their final mark. The question that has been set by the exam board is as follows:

Investigate the validity of the Bradshaw model in describingchanges in discharge along the course of a river.

I plan to take the class out on Tuesday 14th April 2015. We will visitEpping Forest Conservation Centre wherethe students will conduct a series of data collecting exercises on a local river lead by the centre staff.

The controlled assessment requires that your son/daughter carries out their own research and uses this research to produce a piece of coursework which has to be completed in school.

During the visit, the students will be required to wear old clothes and suitable footwear, preferably wellington boots as they are going to have to enter the river. Water proofs are advisable if it is a rainy day.Students will be transported to the field centre by minibus. Behaviour will be of the highest order due to the fact that they will be communicating with the centre staff and working in an area accessible to the general public and therefore representing the Academy and all that the Academy stands for. Any inappropriate behavior will result in students being returned to school immediately and completion of the exam will therefore be in jeopardy.

We will need to leave the school at 8.15a.m.to get to the centre for a 9.00 o’clock start and will not be back at school until 4.30 pm. Photos will play a vital role in this work so the students will need to ensure that they bring a camera. If this is a problem please let me know and I can organize for a camera to be provided. Packed lunch will also be required. (If you are entitled to a free school meals please complete the appropriate section on the reply slip and a lunch will be provided).

In order for your Son/Daughter to take part in this visit I need you to complete the permission slip below. If the slip is not returned, I will not be able to take your son/daughter on this trip. There is no fee for this trip. Also please complete and sign the attached photo permission slip sent from the centre.

Yours sincerely,

J. Armstrong
