Student Government:
The Callaway Student Council is a group of third, fourth, and fifth grade students who work to make the school a better place. We do this by promoting School Spirit, doing Community Service Projects (Relay for Life, Snacks donated bi-monthly to Children & Family Services, Food Drives and Baskets), fundraisers, and supplying rewards and gifts for teachers and students.
In order to be a member of the student council, you must meet the following requirements:
· No behavior problems
· Have at least all C's
· Able to attend bi-weekly meetings (7:30 a.m.)
· Be of good character
If you meet all of the requirements, you may then run for class representative. Third grade classes are represented by one (1) Representative appointed by their teachers. Two students from each fourth and fifth grade classes are elected by their classmates or appointed by their teachers. Officers are elected within the council.
The student council meets Bi-Weekly on Wednesday from 7:30am-7:45am. The faculty advisor for Student Government is Ms. Cindy Williams.
Safety Patrol:
Callaway's Safety Patrol is made up of twelve 5th grade students. They are responsible for helping the kindergarten students get off the bus and escorting them to their morning room location, then off to their own classrooms when the first bell rings.
Some Safety Patrol Duties include:
§ Safety Patrol personnel have assigned posts.
§ They help remind students of the rules.
§ They report the names of students who are breaking the rules or who are in unsafe situations to a teacher or administrator.
§ They help monitor the morning walking track, under the supervision of Coach Barbara Jackson.
Service as a Safety Patrol is a privilege and responsibility that lasts only as long as this honor is merited; is voluntary and requires responsible students to show leadership and respect to their fellow students.
The Safety Patrol faculty advisor (monitor) is Ms. Doris Tolbert.
ITV:
5th grade students are recommended by teachers toserve each year on Callaway's ITV crew. Students are given the opportunity to enhance their learning through technology. The students rotatebetween assignments such as:anchor, pledge, switcher, sound, and camera. They learn public speaking, as well asdifferent aspects of multimedia. Every morning these studentsbroadcast the daily announcements to Callaway students and faculty on WCES.
