What is health education?
Health is a combination of the physical, mental/emotional and social sides of the “Health Triangle.” We will cover topics that relate to having a healthy body, feeling good about yourself, and getting along with others. It is my objective, as a health educator, to provide information in a way that influences young teens to take positive actions towards their health. The more reliable information a young person has access to, the better prepared they are to make healthy decisions.
Class Policy:
Listen to instructions
Enter and exit the class prepared
Always try to do your best
Respect yourself and others- including ALL teachers and staff in the class
No excuses, try your best!
Materials needed for class:

- Manila File Folder: I will provide each student with a folder that they will keep in the class for any notes or worksheets.

Students will be graded on the following:
- Chapter Tests: Students can use any notes or handouts on the tests; therefore there are no retakes.
- Homework Assignments

Homework Policy: Any assignment not turned in the day it is due will be given a zerofor a grade. If there are circumstances beyond the student’s control please see me about the assignment. Students need to be responsible for getting their work turned in on time. (The assignment must be turned in by the end of the school day, no locker passes will be given to go get the assignment during the class. Come prepared.)
GREAT Program: 7th grade Health classes participate in the GREAT Program (Gang Resistance Education and Training.) This is a 13 week course, taught once a week by Officer Barrencotta. The program reinforces the Health curriculum and helps to teach the students how they can have a positive influence on the community they live in.
Technology: The Lockport City School district is moving in the direction of using more technology in the classroom. My Masters is in Educational Computing and I am on the Digital Learning team here at North Park so I am excited about the prospect of using more technology. I currently have a SMARTBoard, smart TV and Chromebooks in my classroom. I will also be setting up a google classroom, please make sure you have your Google permission form turned in. Other programs you will see utilized would be remind101, piktochart, thinglink, and kahoot.
