Job Title:MS Advisor

Responsible To:General Manager

Contract:Maternity Cover (1 year)

Salary:£16,000 up to £19,000 (depending on experience)

Purpose of the Job:

To provide a thorough and practical information and advice service to individuals with MS, their families and carers. To liaise with and refer issues as appropriate to other agencies.

Main Responsibilities

  • To train as an MS Advisor and continually build knowledge of MS
  • Provide extensive unbiased advice and support to people affected by MS via telephone, email, letter or face to face
  • Provide figures and statistics of call volumes and area of concern to management, professionals, professional bodies and other resource centres

Key Tasks

To build knowledge of MS and keep up to date on the latest MS news and developments by reading and researching.

Maintain and update the MS Choices leaflet range as and when necessary

Write new MS Choices Information leaflets when required

Respond and give advice where possible to benefit queries, sending referrals to our Welfare Rights and Benefit specialist or other organisations and agencies as necessary.

Attend conferences/seminars/training days where applicable

Contribute to and attend Information and Advice events

Maintain and update New Pathways index

Maintain , answering queries or forwarding as necessary

Other Tasks

Provide cover when other members of the team are unavailable

Attend fundraising events as and when required, this will involve weekend work.

Assist in keeping work area clean

Provide general administrative support

Key Skills

To be confident in communicating with customers via the telephone, email and face to face.

To have excellent customer service skills with a good ability to listen. It would be desirable to have experience of working with people affected by Multiple Sclerosis.

To be computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

To have excellent ability to proof read, edit and write information leaflets and to keep them updated regularly.

Must have the ability to work well within a team environment but also on own initiative.

To have a good ability to research, find and evaluate information.

To have a keen attitude to learning and a willingness to undertake training.

To be educated to at least GCSE standard or equivalent in English and Mathematics.

Qualities

It is a requirement of the position to remain flexible within your role and to operate across other roles as business needs require.

The MS Advisor is expected to have an excellent telephone manner, effective emotional support skills, computer literacy skills (Microsoft), effective verbal and written communications skills and a willingness to be involved in the wider work undertaken by MS-UK.

The working environment is open plan and non-smoking.
