Biography Reference Center -- Contains biographical and sometimes critical information about authors living and dead.This database is also available from home: User name = atv95 Password = ssdc083519.

Twayne’s Authors on GVRL –Contains the full text of hundreds of literary criticism books about great British, and world authors. Some of the books feature biographical information about an author. In the Subject Guide search box, type the author’s first and last name. Example: Thomas Hardy. Click on the author’s name when it appears. Under the Limit Search by area, click on Biography. The resulting entries will contain biographical information about your Thomas Hardy. Home access: Username = natcathedral password = cathedral_rpa

·  Historical New York Times: online database containing articles and reviews from 1851-2002 Tips :Search first name, last name. Under advanced search click on more, click on review. Example: William Golding

·  JSTOR- online database of important scholarly journals in a variety of disciplines. To access from home, click on the JSTOR link on the library’s web site and create an account.

Remember to do the following: 1. Choose advanced search mode 2. Place quote marks around book title such as “Lord of the Flies” 3. Uncheck the box stating “Include links to external content” 4. Scroll down and click “Language and Literature. 5. For best results, use narrow search terms such as Darwinism and “Lord of the Flies.”

·  Project MUSE – Online database that provides 100% full text access to a comprehensive selection of humanities journals, more recent than those in JSTOR.

Remember to do the following: 1. Click on Advanced Search. 2. In the New Search area, type in desired search terms. Example: Picture of Dorian Gray. In the second search box, type in additional search term(s). Example: vanity. Under Content, select journals, articles, or reviews. If the search results are still too numerous, reduce them by checking a literature-related sub-category under Research Area. Example: Literature (43).

·  Eagle Eyes the NCS Web Library-The following Internet sites may be helpful to you for biographical and critical information. All are available in Eagle Eyes. Type the keywords English 10 in the keyword search box. All of these sites will appear.

·  Gale Literary Criticism Index VERY IMPORTANT!!!!

Find which Gale Literature series include entries on your author. Search for the title of a literary work to see which criticism series it is discussed.

·  Internet Public Library: Literary Criticism

Excellent literary criticism mega-site that is searchable by author, title and time period. Be sure to click on British period.

·  Intute – Type in author’s name or title of work

·  Paradigm Online Writing Assistant- A great site for secondary school students looking for help in writing essays, editing drafts, and documenting sources.

Citation Format – Go to www.ncslibrary.org and Click on the link Noodletools. (http://www.noodletools.com/login.php) Login with your personal ID and password. Click on “Create new list” and choose MLA Advanced. Having trouble? Click the link “Tips in a Minute” for instructional videos. After creating a project name. Be sure to share it with your English 10 teacher.

Home Access – Go to www.ncslibrary.org and click on home access. At the login prompt, type in the word Eagles to retrieve a list of databases with their corresponding usernames and passwords. Updated 3/2015
