REGULAR MEETING OF May 12, 2015

Opening Business

The BCHS Site Based Council meeting of May 12, 2015 began at 6:00 p.m. in the school library with the following council members present: Alisha Clemons, Jeff Eaglin, Paul Prater, Robert Rawlings, Earl Rogers and Leslie Workman.

Guests of this meeting were: John Slone, Tara Barnett, Todd Neace, Misty Otis, Lisa McFarland, Kristen Swartz, Matt Collinsworth, Kelly Collinsworth, Dave Moore

Kim Karrick, Daniel Hunt, Jr., Beth McNabb, Tony Barber, Lucinda Alderman and Vonda Myers.

15-077 Agenda: Mr. Earl Rogers moved to approve the agenda as presented. Mr. Jeff Eaglin provided a second and the motion passed by consensus.

Good News Report: Mr. Paul Prater and Mrs. Leslie Workman commented on how proud they were of our students – test results of on demand writing were great. Mr. Robert Rawlings gave an update on Band. Mr. Jeff Eaglin noted that he was proud of our students.

Public Comment: Mr. John Slone addressed the Council regarding an agenda item for tonight’s meeting – math course sequencing and encouraged the Council members to table the item. Lisa McFarland addressed the Council regarding her daughter’s math class for Senior year (course sequencing).

Approval of Minutes

15-078 April 9, 2015 Minutes - Mr. Earl Rogers moved to approve the April 9, 2015 meeting minutes with Mrs. Leslie Workman providing a second and motion passed by consensus.

Financial Reports

Approval of Financial Reports: The SBDM Council approved the financial report as follows:

15-079 April 2015 – Mrs. Alisha Clemons moved to approve the April 2015 financial report with a second being provided by Mr. Robert Rawlings. The motion passed by consensus.

Review

Staffing Allocation Update – Mr. Paul Prater provided an update on the staffing allocation for 2015-16. All positions were returned. The Reading teacher was included in the regular allocation and Health and P.E. teacher would be a District Itinerant position.

Boys Golf Coach – Mr. Paul Prater consulted with the SBDM Council on the Boys Golf Coach position. He recommended hiring Jeff Eaglin to fill this vacancy.

Girls Softball Assistant Coach – Mr. Paul Prater consulted with the Council to hire Brooklyn Hesterberg as Girls Softball Assistant Coach.

15-080 CSIP Progress Monitoring Notes – Mrs. Leslie Workman moved to approve the CSIP Progress Monitoring Notes. Mrs. Alisha Clemons provided a second and the motion passed by consensus.

New Business

15-081 Diploma and Graduation Requirements – Class of 2019 – Mr. Paul Prater reviewed the diploma and graduation requirements for the Class of 2019. He advised the only changes pertained to clarification of the requirements for Math, English and Humanities courses. A change for the College Diploma – students wishing to pursue a College diploma will be required to take Chemistry and Physics. Mrs. Leslie Workman moved to approve the Class of 2019 graduation requirements as presented. Mr. Rawlings provided a second and the motion passed by consensus.

8th Grade Math and English Dual Credit Partnership Update – Mr. Paul Prater reviewed plans to have BCMS and BCHS teachers work together on one of the extended days.

15-082 Math Course Sequencing Changes (Update) – Mr. Prater explained the changes in math course sequencing. This was met with strong opposition by the guests that were present for the meeting and a lengthy discussion ensued. Mr. Earl Rogers moved to table discussions until the next meeting. Mr. Jeff Eaglin provided a second and motion passed by consensus.

Mr. Paul Prater stated a special called meeting would be scheduled.

Standards Based Grading Policies Update – Mr. Prater stated that teachers were doing things differently with scoring of retakes and timelines on make-up work. Mr. Prater will make recommendations on these policies.

Staffing Update – Mr. Paul Prater provided an update on the following positions.

HSC Instructional Aide and Health and P.E. are District Itinerant positions – neither of these positions will go thru SBDM Council.

15-083 Head Girls Basketball Coach Vacancy – committee to be formed to review/screen applicants for this position with top candidates being referred to the SBDM Council for interviews/hiring. Mrs. Alisha Clemons moved to approve the proposed process for hiring the Girls Basketball Coach. Mr. Robert Rawlings provided a second and motion passed by consensus.

15-084 Biology Teacher Vacancy – Mr. Paul Prater consulted with the Council on how they wanted to proceed with filling this vacancy. Mrs. Leslie Workman moved to have Mr. Paul Prater interview applicants and Council to interview. Mr. Robert Rawlings provided a second and motion passed by consensus.

Student Achievement

Upcoming EOC and ODW State Testing – Mr. Paul Prater provided an update.
