Google Docs directions for Found Poem or Borrowed line formatting:

1)Go into Google and open a blank document.

2)Change the font size and type (Times New Roman and 12 point)

3)If your screen does not show the alignment and spacing icons, click on the MORE tab.

4)Change to double-space.

5)Go to the Insert tab and click.

6)Select page number (Pick the first choice which numbers your document from 1 on up)

7)You will now be in the header section. Click on the box in the upper left which says “different first page.”

8)Click below the line and hit enter until you are on the second page of the document.

9)Double click in the header section next to the number 2.

Make sure you move your cursor to the left of the number.

Type your last name and hit the space bar one time.

Highlight your header, and change the font to Times New Roman and 12 point.

Double click below the header and move back to the beginning of your document.

Go back to the MORE tab if needed so you can center your title. If you do not have one, type the word title there to remind you to put it in later.

10)Type your poem on this page. Remember to center it both horizontally and vertically. You may change the font as long as it is legible. You may change the spacing on the poem only to make it fit nicely on the page.

11)Now move to the second page after you have formatted your poem so you can make sure your work cited or consulted is still at the top of the page.

A Tip for typing your work cited or consulted, the tab button will revert to the first line in an attempt to autocorrect what it perceives as a mistake. To correct this, place your cursor at the beginning of the line you wish to indent and hit these buttons in this order (not at the same time):

Backspace, Enter, Tab That should fix the problem
