Quizlet.com - set up as a teacher

  • Register for your own free account if you would like to have your own sets. You don’t need an account though to have students use quizlet.
  • To type in a new set, hit the “create set” box at the top. Give it a title and description and then type in the terms. You can choose a foreign language and then you will have the extra characters to use. Hit continue at the bottom.
  • OR, you can move in a list from your own files (example MSWord). To do this, click on “import data” and then find the “copy and paste your data” box in blue on the right. Paste your list in there.
  • OR, you can use a list already that is already created in quizlet and then import it into your account so you can change it as desired. Start in your own account and search for a list you would like to copy. From this new list, look for “copy” in the dark blue box towards the top. Click on copy. Edit as desired and then hit “save” at the bottom.
  • OR, you can find a list that is already created and give the URL to your students to use the list as it is (proofread carefully!)
  • To FIND your sets after creating them, click on your user name at the top right and you will see “your sets”

Other

  • Speller- this will read the word to you and you type it in.
  • Students don’t need their own account unless they choose to have one. They will need one if they want to record their scores for the games. Their names are then posted for all to see. My students usually do this whether I tell them to or not.

Voki.com – la ropa (Spanish 2)

You are going to present yourself as a Voki (talking avatar) and describe your clothing. You will be graded on your language usage and accuracy, completeness of presentation, and pronunciation. This is worth one quiz grade for 10 points. Be creative in your commentary and clothing and have fun!

1)Create a Voki.com account. Do not create a classroom account. Make an individual account. Then create your visual Avatar. The free Vokis do NOT have on graduation caps. Be sure to include interesting clothing to discuss. Be sure to create a voki that has a body so you can describe the clothing. All the “oddball” vokis have bodies. To see bodies click the magnifying glass at the bottom right of your avatar and then use arrows to move it up or down.

2)Write or type your description of your clothing. Use “wordreference.com” for words you need. DO NOT USE GOOGLE TRANSLATOR!

3)Show your writing to Ms. Schlichting for corrections. And then REWRITE it. You need a FINAL COPY to work from that is perfect.

4)Practice your speaking outloud MANY times (5 or more) until you can say it well! It doesn’t have to be fast, but needs to be smooth! Remember: You can only speak for 60 seconds.

5)Tape your voice using the microphone image and save it*. NOTE: you can’t save your voki until you have attached a voice. Be sure the headsets have the volume turned up and are not on mute. Also, please be nice to the headsets. They won’t be replaced this year if broken!

6)Publish your voki. Send it to meand to yourself. Put “Spanish 2 clothing voki” as the subject. You must send it to me BEFORE CLASS!

Animoto- El verano - El invierno- Mi estación favorita es…..

Give students advance notice that they should have some pictures stored somewhere they can access online at school, if they want to use their own photos. Otherwise they can pull up photos in animoto or from online.

Go to animoto.com and make your own account. Remember your password, use one you know well!

Pick a season and upload 4 or 5 pictures to represent what you, your friends, and family do in that season. You may have an opening “thesis statement” or a “closing statement” and fewer pictures. Your animoto can only be 30 seconds. It will chop off anything over about 33 seconds, so keep your eye on the time. In complete sentences, write captions for your pictures. You will read your captions as your animoto is playing. You MUST send your animoto to me BEFORE class in order to have it be on time. After you have finished your animoto, you should practice reading it outloud smoothly and be sure you can keep up with your animoto!

Send your animoto to me at: ______

These are the things you must include at least once amongst all of your picture descriptions. You will have to keep your sentences brief and to the point to get them all in within 30 seconds. Put several in each sentence:

General Tips and Random Thoughts

This is at the top of all my computer direction sheets regarding our time in the lab:

Reminder- We are here to practice SPANISH. Using other web sites or off-topic behavior will result in losing points on the next quiz. Also remember no food or drinks in the lab. No headphones! Sometimes I need to communicate with the whole group and don’t want you to miss something.

If we are doing memory or practice exercises, I usually limit it to 30 minutes and try to do two or three different programs.

I frequently let them have the last 5-10 minutes to play scatter on quizlet if that is an option. Students love this competition.

Voki.com or animoto.com are great presentation/speaking avenues for shy students.
