Racketball League Week 4
Broadland travelled to Fakenham this week and the visitors came away with a win.
The No2 pairing of Bruce Bushell and Steve Moxey played early as Steve had to go. In a match of many long rallies Bruce nearly managed to get the third game but in the end Steve’s experience, anticipation and mobility was too much.
At 4, Tim Venes managed a first win against Phil Dow, who was playing his first match, levelling the score.
The advantage changed hands several times in a close, hard-hitting match at 3 between Ollie Bacon-Hilton and Mark Woolner, the third game being especially close before Mark won out in the fourth and restored Broadland’s lead.
In a decisive final match at 1, Nicky Green couldn’t find consistency in her shots and Jake Bond’s speed around the court and reliable shot-making earned him a comfortable personal win and sealed a convincing victory for Broadland.

Barnham Broom played at East Anglia and after a close game, Barnham took the bonus points. Barnham’s reluctant racketball player Wes Hicks is definitely getting the hang of things and had a good 3 – 1 win vs. Brian Day at No. 4. Stuart Bowes’s experience payed dividends against East Anglia’s tennis coach Mark Egglington who was called in to play at the last minute. Although not used to the game, Mark made up for it with great movement around the court. Much closer than the score suggests and a good tie, but 3 – 0 to Stuart. It was movement versus experience for the two Paul’s (Bradnock and English) at No. 2 before experience took the fifth and deciding game after a really good battle giving Paul B a 3 – 2 win. Jack Pearse and Peter Hubbard also had a close game at No. 1 with Peter attacking whenever possible and playing some great winners. Ultimately Jack’s consistency was the deciding factor and he won 3 – 1.

Still difficult to have a really accurate table. Because one team does not play each week, the teams have not all played the same number of games.
