FCS Rational
Today's students are the future leaders and members of tomorrow's families, workplaces, and communities. They need to be able to act responsibly and productively to synthesize knowledge from multiple sources, to work cooperatively, and to apply the highest standards in all aspects of their lives. Family plays a very important role in our individual lives and in society and is widely recognized as the context in which its members learn about relation to and caring for others, acquire attitudes about learning and work, build communication and reasoning skills, learn right from wrong, and form patterns of responsible citizenship. Family members learn to work together within the family and with other families to improve conditions in the home, workplace, community, and world. (NASAFACS website)

Employability Readiness/Daily Points:
My performance standards reflect desired traits that employers are looking for in the future workforce. Continuous practice is required to make these traits second nature for an individual; therefore, I have incorporated them into my performance standards. Each day, students will earn up to 5 points for demonstrating the skills in four areas: human relations, resource management, listening skills, and teamwork.
· Students earn these points by simply coming to class and doing what is asked of them. This is an all or nothing grade. You either earn the points each day, or you don’t. Examples of things that would cause students to lose points include, but are not limited to: not being prepared, tardiness, disturbing class, not being on task, or not following class expectations.
Folders
Every student should have a folder that they leave in the classroom. In this folder, students will keep their bellringer responses in order and all classwork grouped together by unit. Periodically student will be given a folder grade to ensure that they are working on their organization and study skills.
FCCLA
The Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader, members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communications, practical knowledge, and career preparation.
FCCLA is the only Career and Technical Student Organization with family as its central focus.
Teaching Methods
I use a variety of teaching tools including: textbooks, supplemental reading material, video, power point, projects and lab experiences. Sometimes we work as individuals and sometimes in cooperative small groups, and sometimes as a whole group.
