Dear Parents and Panther Athletes-
Welcome to a new season of boys’ soccer at Altadena Middle School. We are truly looking forward to a fun and competitive season with this year’s teams. Below is some information that will help you understand a little more about the upcoming season.
Paperwork:
All students who meet the requirements and follow the expectations listed in the “Athletics” section of the Altadena Family Handbook are welcome to try out for the boys’ soccer teams. Be sure to pay special attention to the “Guidelines and Procedures for Team Participation” as it relates to eligibility, being on time and pick up from practices, attendance, and good sportsmanship. ALL PAPERWORK should be turned into Ms. Saccoman in Student Services no later than Thursday, August 11, 2016.
ABSOLUTELY NO STUDENTS WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN TRYOUTS WITHOUT ALL PAPERWORK TURNED IN!!!!
TRYOUTS: Monday August 15, 2016 3:45-5:15pm (all athletes will run the mile)
Tuesday August16, 2016 3:45-5:15pm -1st cuts to be made
Wed. Aug17, 2016 6:45am-8:15am
Thursday Aug18, 2016 3:45-5:15pm (final cut)
Friday August 19, 2016 3:45-5:15pm (if necessary)
Cutting Procedures:
We wish that there were enough uniforms, supervision, and playing time to accommodate all students that try out for the team. The sad truth is that there is not, and tryouts become necessary and cuts have to be made. Cutting a student is obviously a difficult situation for the student as well as the coach. We don’t look forward to this particular aspect of coaching but we are determined to make it as painless as possible. Cuts will be done in as positive manner as we can. We appreciate your understanding during this process.
Practices:
Pre-season practices will be split between before school and after school. When the team is determined and the parent meeting occurs, we will continue to have the same practice times. Practice times and days will vary based on which team your student makes. Students and Parents will be informed of any changes to the practice schedule at least a day before. All team members are expected to attend all practices and gamed, this includes being on time. If a student is not going to make a scheduled practice or game, an email or voicemail message will need to be left with Coach Elliott or Coach Mormillo before the practice or game.
Season Schedule:
The season schedule will be distributed to the students at the completion of tryouts. There will also be copies with Ms. Saccoman at the Student Services desk in the front office. Games will be Monday (5pm) and Wednesday (4:30pm).
Discipline Procedures:
Each athlete is a STUDENT FIRST and a player second. Whether in the classroom, on or off the field, the student is a representative of the team and Altadena and should conduct themselves accordingly. The standards for this conduct are outlined in the student handbook and are responsibilities of the student athlete.
We look forward to a great season and I thank you in advance for the hard work and support you will be providing to your son and the boys’ soccer teams this year at Altadena.
