Throwing and Catching Task Sheet

Lesson 1 Grade 4

The goal today is to be able to throw a ball to a target using a smooth overhand motion.

___1. Coach will lead the team in stretches.

___2. Coach will review the overhand throw with the teacher while the team reviews the cues on task 3. Coach will then review with the team the overhand throw.

___4. With a partner throw a beanbag to a target on the wall. Your partner will watch and give you corrective feedback as you throw 10 times. Switch and watch your partner.

___5. Overhand throw the beanbag to your partner. Use your partner as the “target” and keep your eyes on your target as you throw overhand. Receiving partner watch the beanbag coming towards you and catch it in both hands. Try this 10 times.

___6. Overhand throw the beanbag to your partner so that they can catch it without taking more than one step. If a catch is dropped, both of you must stay on your spot. If you both make good catches then you both take one step back.

___7. Repeat task 6 using a tennis ball.

___8. PIG. Using targets, pick a target that you are trying to hit using the overhand throw. The target will be 15 feet away. Make sure to mark your spot. Your partner will watch you and give corrective feedback. If you are successful hitting your target you will not get a letter. If you miss your target you will get a letter (P). You and your partner will take turns. You get one throw per turn. The game is over when one partner spells PIG.
