Course Description: Yoga/Fitness is a course that will include a few different yoga styles, including Hatha, Yin, and Restorative. We also run/walk every Monday at the Football Field. The idea is to engage in activities that you can perform lifelong as you complete your credit recovery. The class will meet Monday-Thursday and some Friday’s on the following dates: 8/28, 8/29, 2/1, 2/2, 2/3, 2/6, 2/7, 2/8, 2/9, 2/14, 2/15, 2/16, 2/17, 2/21, 2/22, 2/23, 2/24, 2/27, 2/28, 3/1, 3/2, 3/3,3/6, 3/7, 3/8, 3/9, 3/10, 3/13, 3/14, 3/15, 3/16, 3/17, 3/20, 3/21, 3/22, 3/23, 3/24, 3/27, 3/28, 3/29, 4/3, 4/4, 4/5, 4/6, 4/7, 4/17, 4/18, 4/19, 4/20, 4/21, 4/24, 4/25, 4/26, 4/27, 4/28, 5/1, 5/2, 5/3, 5/4, 5/5=60 class hours.* (This is the last day of class if you do not need make-up hours)

Make-up classes 5/8, 5/9, 5/10, 5/11, 5/15, 5/16, 5/17, and 5/18= (8 hours of make-up time for anyone who may have missed a class)

This credit recovery course requires 52 hours of in seat attendance=52 hours

Two (2) 4 hour projects =8 hours for a total of 60 hours

Course Competencies/Learning Objectives

Students who successfully complete Yoga/Fitness will be competent in the following areas

·  Demonstrate and explain The 5 components of Fitness

·  Demonstrate and explain key components of a thorough warm-up and cool-down.

·  Demonstrate a variety of yoga poses

·  Demonstrate and understand yoga vocabulary (Sanskrit)

·  Understand one’s personal fitness level.

·  Explain how to maintain/improve upon personal fitness level.

Student Evaluation

The grading system for Physical Education Credit Recovery is as follows:

Attendance Incomplete grade for the day of an unexcused absence (pts)

Class dress Student must be in exercise clothing to do yoga (NO JEANS)

Class participation 20 Daily Points (your yoga mat work and run days )

Attitude Willingness to learn

Projects You will be adding (2) 4 hour assignments to your yoga portfolio

1)  A two page typed essay on your experience with studying yoga this semester or school year.

2)  A take home final packet that must be completed and turned in by May 18, 2017

NOTE: O CREDIT FOR THE DAY IF A STUDENT HAS A CELL PHONE, IPOD, ETC WITHOUT PERMISSION ON THEIR YOGA MAT

Attendance Policy

Regular and prompt class attendance is an essential part of the educational experience. Cleveland Charter High School expects students to exercise good judgment regarding attendance and absences. Students will accept full responsibility for ensuring their work does not suffer because of absences. All students are expected to attend every scheduled class on time. Exceptions may be made for illness and valid emergencies. Remember you have 8 hours of make-up dates in May 2017.

Classroom Expectations

1.  Arrive to class on time (7 AM)

2.  Be prepared for class everyday (students must change clothes before and after class)

3.  Be respectful to all students in the class

4.  No food or drink in the gym or locker room (water is allowed)

5.  No cell phones, iPods or any other electronic devices

6.  Give your best effort at all times

Class Requirements

Students must be in class every day that the class is scheduled to meet. Students must make up the hour for each absence. Students who miss a run day (Mondays) for an excused absence can make up the run the two Mondays in May that are scheduled 5/8/17 and 5/15/17). Students must wear sneakers on run days and T-shirts/sweatshirts, and athletic shorts/sweat pants/yoga pants in class. Students are expected to participate every day in class unless a doctor’s note is provided.

Plagiarism, Cheating, and Academic Integrity

Plagiarism is the practice of copying words, sentences, images, or ideas for use in written or oral assessments without giving proper credit to the source. Cheating is defined as the giving or receiving of illegal help on anything that has been determined by the teacher to be an individual effort. Both are considered serious offenses and will significantly affect your course grade.

General Information

Students are expected to participate every day the course is scheduled (*see dates that class meets on page 1 of this syllabus. If a student will miss more than one class, a doctor’s note is required and students will be given alternate (usually written) activities. Students should not wear long earrings and/or necklaces. Students must participate everyday unless they present the teacher with a doctor’s note, in which case alternate or makeup arrangements will be made by teacher discretion.
