Creative Teaching in the Secondary Classroom (LSE-T2)

OXFORD, THE UNITED KINGDOM

2 weeks, 21 x 60 min per week

Description of Course Contents

In each methodology session the tutor will facilitate an awareness raising activity, followed by a discussion in which participants discuss and compare their teaching experience of the subject. The tutor will present various practical and creative teaching techniques for secondary and adult learners based on a range of teaching methodologies and recent research into English as a foreign language acquisition.

Teachers will try out these techniques and, in feedback, discuss their appropriacy (with any necessary adaptation) to their own teaching situations. In particular, the tutor will present strategies for encouraging communication, motivating students, managing large and/or mixed ability classes effectively, error correction and follow-up activities.

In each language improvement session, the tutor will demonstrate, through loop input, how teachers can improve and update their students’ grammar, lexis and pronunciation.

Target Groups

The course objectives are to improve and extend the teaching techniques (and language ability) of teachers of English as a foreign language to young people and adults. All participants are required to fill in a Pre-Course questionnaire. The Course Co-ordinator plans the course to meet the special requirements of the group. The course content is outlined and discussed on the first morning, and is then adapted as appropriate. There can be maximum 14 participants in a group.
