Miss Gorski’s Behavior Plan
Dear Parents,
In order to provide our students with the excellent educational climate they deserve, the following discipline plan will be used. At Frank Elementary we are using the Whole Brain Teaching rules. These rules are being used school wide.
Rule #1: Follow directions quickly
Rule #2: Raise your hand for permission to speak
Rule #3: Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat
Rule # 4: Make smart choices
Rules #5: Make your dear teacher happy
Behavior Plan
Our classroom uses a color chart to help the kids have a visual idea of how they are behaving in the classroom. The children will all begin each and every day on Green which means they are having a good day. If the child breaks a rule, they will first be verbally warned. If the child continues to break a rule, they will be asked to change their color. Each time he/she breaks a rule, they will be asked to move their color down. They will always have the opportunity to earn their way back up by correcting their behavior.
Blue- WOW!
Green – Start of the day
Yellow – Oops! 5 minutes loss of privileges
Orange – Make better choices 9 minutes loss of privileges
Red- Phone call/Note Home or Referral to office if severe
Wednesday Folder / Report Card Conduct:
E - Blue
S - Green and Yellow
N – Yellow and Orange
U - Red
Rewards
Students who behave appropriately will be positively rewarded with a chance to move to BLUE on the behavior chart. Students will also be rewarded with “Treasure Box”, notes home, praise, stickers, free time, special treats and extra privileges (computer time, etc).
You will receive a behavior note in the STAR binder on days your child is on orange or red. The STAR Binder will be traveling to and from school each day. Please help your child remember to bring the STAR binder to school each day.
The Daily 5
This year your child will be participating in the Daily Five. This literacy framework was designed by "The Sisters”, Gail Boushey & Joan Moser. The Daily Five is a literacy framework that allows the children to be independently engaged in quality reading and writing activities while the teacher is free to work one-on-one and with small groups on focus lessons.
The Daily Five consists of...
· Read to Self
· Read to Someone
· Listen to Reading
· Work on Writing
· Work on Word Work.
The research behind the Daily Five (paraphrased from figure 1-2 pg. 11):
· Read to Self: To become a better reader, you must read daily on your just right reading level.
· Read to Someone: Reading to someone helps you practice strategies, become more fluent and check for understanding.
· Listening to Reading: Listening to reading allows you to hear fluent reading and learn more words thus increasing your vocabulary.
· Working on Writing: To become a better writer, you must practice writing daily on topics that interest you.
· Work on Word Work: Correct spelling speeds up your ability to get your thoughts down on paper.
The Daily Five will be introduced slowly and systematically the first six weeks of school. Once the children are proficient in independently participating in the Daily Five without teacher intervention I will begin my individual and guided reading groups. The children will complete one Daily Five activity of their choosing followed up by a whole group mini lesson. This pattern repeats as long as time allows.
